Africa loses between 30–50% of its food before it ever reaches a buyer.

Not because the food isn't good enough. Because nobody knew it existed.

That's not a farming problem. That's a visibility problem and it's been haemorrhaging billions from African food trade for decades.

Think about what "blind trade" actually means in practice. In Ghana alone, post-harvest mango losses run at 49%. Not because the mangoes are left to rot in the field but because the farmer's world is limited to whoever already knows their phone number. The same middlemen. The same depressed farm-gate prices. The same invisible ceiling. This is the practise across most of the crop categories.

Meanwhile, an importer in Dubai is searching for exactly that product, through exactly the same broken network, finding nothing.
Two people. One transaction waiting to happen. Zero visibility connecting them.
This is what Avrica Food fixes.

Avrica Food gives farmers, exporters, and distributors something they've never had: digital storefronts where their origin-held inventory is discoverable by verified buyers across international markets in real time.

No middlemen extracting margin for holding information.
No guesswork.
Buyer signals arrive the moment produce is listed.
And it goes deeper than matching supply to demand.
Post-harvest losses in Sub-Saharan Africa cost over $4 billion every single year
that's enough to feed 48 million people. Visibility doesn't just create trade opportunities; it attacks waste at the root. Buyers source what they need, when they need it. Sellers ship against confirmed demand, not hope.

Avrica is also the first food trade platform to integrate blockchain traceability critical at a moment when ethically conscious buyers, particularly in coffee and specialty produce, increasingly require supply chain proof before committing to a purchase. That's not a feature. For African suppliers trying to enter premium markets, it's the difference between a closed door and an open one.

Global food trade has operated in the dark for too long. Avrica Food turned the lights on.

Visibility is the crux of the global food supply chain problem.

Gulfood 2026 arrives at a decisive moment for global food trade.

Global food systems are under sustained pressure. Climate volatility, geopolitical fragmentation, and repeated supply-chain disruptions have shifted food security from an operational concern to a strategic and geopolitical priority. According to the FAO, global food import bills have more than doubled over the past decade, while key importing regions are actively diversifying supply sources to reduce concentration risk. Markets are coded. Demand already exists in the future and supply must rise to meet it. The real opportunity is in building strong infrastructure. At PACEID Uganda's Buyers week, Avrica Food spoke about decoding global demand using digital trade rails and blockchain to fix trust, traceability, and payments, so Uganda doesn’t just participate in export trade, it scales it.

Africa produces some of the world’s richest agricultural products from coffee and cocoa to fruits, yet too often, we export raw goods and import finished intelligence.

At GITEX GLOBAL 2025 Dubai, the world is talking about AI, data, and digital transformation. But there’s one story that needs a louder voice and that is - Africa’s data and its power to reshape food trade.

Imagine farmers connected to blockchain-based supply chains, AI powered tools predicting export demand, and real-time data linking Africa’s fields to global markets.

That’s the future Avrica Food believes in and the one we’re building toward.

Gulfood 2025 was a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of the global food system. Did you know that Africa holds 60% of the world's arable land, yet contributes only a fraction to global food exports? Events like Gulfood are critical for bridging this gap and connecting food supply.

With the global population expected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, the demand for sustainable food production is skyrocketing. This creates a massive opportunity for African farmers to not only feed their own continent but also to become major players in the global market.

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is an additional game-changer, creating a $3.4 trillion market. Gulfood provided a platform to explore how African farmers can leverage this agreement to boost intra-African trade and export to the world.
