Tokul is back in the kitchen, and what a beautiful collaboration to kick things off with that is close to the heart ❤️

As what I’m doing in tbt second video is a Dakwa Salad with a 🇵🇸 twist. Dakwa salad was always one of my favorite go-to meals after coming back from college. Simple, filling, and quietly comforting in the way everyday Sudanese food often is.

I wanted to bring it to the “Branches & Blooms” dinner to share a small piece of that familiarity and a bit of Sudan with you. And with Tala, we’ve blend it beautifully with Palestinian flavours that just proved to work together really well.

Can’t wait for you to try it! Hibiscus 🌺🌿

Few seats left on the 7th. Dm me or Tala for more info!

Roots 🇸🇩 🇵🇸

Marwa - My mother is from Omdurman and my father’s from Wad Madani, though most of my days in Sudan were spent in Omdurman.
And somehow, no matter where I went in Sudan, everything still felt familiar. I wish I had more photos from those years, but these are the glimpses that still stay with me. The bougainvillea trees spilling over walls, the uneven streets, the sound of nearby mosques, men passing by in jalabiyas, and the dukan guy who somehow knew everybody by name.
Small daily details that quietly became the second half definition of “home”.

Tala - I was born and raised in Nablus, the best city for food and sweets. My mom is from Beit Iba and my dad is from Tammoun, two Palestinian villages where food and land are inseparable. I grew up surrounded by fresh ingredients, olive harvests, homemade bread, jars of preserved foods, and women cooking from instinct and memory. That connection to the land - and to the people feeding from it - shaped the way I cook, host, and understand food today.

More to talk about how we define our roots, home, and identity over a Palestinian- Sudanese dinner on Branches & Blooms 🌿🌺 on the 7th of June at 8 pm! Book your seat via DM!

Manaqeesh za’atar is one of my deepest memories of home. The smell of fresh bread in the morning, za’atar mixed with olive oil, trays of manaqeesh shared between family members, it was just everyday life growing up in Palestine. It means comfort, simplicity, and the women who always fed us with so much care. Even now, it always takes me back to home in the smallest, quietest ways.

My mom always makes it from scratch, so we never buy it ready. It’s a family recipe passed down, which makes it even more special- something you don’t just eat, you inherit.

For this one we added a Sudanese touch with sesame oil, shammar, and feta on top. In Sudan, sesame oil is that warm, grounding flavor tied to everyday cooking and hospitality. Shammar brings a soft, sweet aroma, and feta adds that salty bite that complements the bread. It all sits so well with the za’atar and olive oil… like they were meant to meet there.

We can’t wait to see you at the Branches & Blooms dinner next month on June 7th at 8 pm.

From mom’s pantry…

Marwa - From my mother’s pantry, kitchen, and hands came the flavors that now shape the dinners I host.
It all started in a small kitchen helping her prepare meals, set the table, and bring everyone together around food. I was very young g and at the time, it felt I was doing alot of work or of similar importance as her simmering, whisking, and slicing her way through lunch or dinner. But looking back now, I realize I was taking part in something much bigger: creating a home, a conversation, a connection around the table.

Tala - The women in my family and the pantry they built around us are the reason I fell in love with food. Growing up in Palestine, our home was always full of jars, spices, grains, olive oil, and small things prepared with care long before anyone arrived. Watching my mom and aunties cook from instinct taught me that food lives in the pantry before it reaches the table - and that became my biggest inspiration to become a chef.
