The latest UKRC × Dead Reckoning Rum collaboration and group bottling is a rare and unique thing
Available for purchase from the new UK importer of Dead Reckoning Rum, Bottler's Marque Company
Fermented from molasses using wild yeast and dunder before being batch distilled on the pot still at Killik Rum distillery, to the East of Melbourne, this offering has been carefully matured and monitored for a just over 2 years in the South Adelaide climate in a single ex bourbon barrel that had previously been used to mature the excellent Mutiny South Pacific (Fiji) by Justin at Dead Reckoning
This rare and unique Australian Dry Aged Killik is a perfect example of maturity Vs age, showing complexity and development far in excess of its 2 year maturation period. Its original cask strength of circa 68% has been brought down to a bottling strength of 53%. This was undertaken following a tasting of the full strength product and determining the sweet spot for allowing a balance of the wood influence and an elevation of those beautifully elegant fresh tropical fruit notes which are afforded the ability to really shine. As you’d expect, no colouring, no chill filtration, no shenanigans
Official tasting notes are: A medley of tropical mango, star fruit, cantaloupe, honeycomb and lychee
Having lived with it in its release form for over a week, and made a significant dent in the bottle, I’d describe it as the offspring of a drunken night inside the factory that makes Juicy Fruit chewing gum between a dialled down high ester from Reunion and a light Grand Arome from Martinique whilst some OWH watches on eating a bowl of whipped cream. Think the depth of fresh, fleshy tropical fruit alongside tropical fruit leathers with just a hint of rubber, and if you have ever tried the unaged Killik High Ester, a touch of that almost creamy strawberry element

What happens when you give an almost perfect rum 5 years more dry aging? 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐌𝐒 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝 is what happens!

Back in 2022, Dead Reckoning released HMS Antelope, a tribute to the great Royal Navy rum tradition.

Justin Boseley blended rums from the same regions that historically supplied the Navy’s famous rum rations: Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados and Australia. The result was a rich, flavour-packed Navy-style blend bottled at a proper Navy Strength 55%.

But here’s where the story gets interesting.

Justin quietly held back 100 litres of that original blend and filled a second-fill Heaven Hill ex-bourbon cask. Then he left it sitting in Adelaide for five years.

What happened next was equal parts disaster and brilliance.

The result is a richer, more concentrated and more polished version of the original. Expect layers of tropical fruit, vanilla custard, pastry notes, floral complexity and integrated spice wrapped in a remarkably full, luxurious texture. 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝟳𝟮% 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹’𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟯𝟯 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗺 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱. Today’s release ! Following on with our Victoria Cross rum release series, we have Corporal Daniel Kierghan VC. On 24 August 2010, during his second Afghanistan deployment, Dan was part of an Afghan and Australian fighting patrol engaged by a numerically superior and coordinated enemy force near the village of Derapet in the Uruzgan province of Afghanistan. For his actions on this day, Dan was subsequently awarded the Victoria Cross for Australia. 50% of all profits from the sale of this release is donated to Legacy Australia
