It’s a great weekend to come up to the Adelaide Hills to enjoy some exquisite red wines! On tasting this weekend at the Casa Freschi cellar door in the heart of the Altezza vineyard in Ashton are our seven current release reds. Piccadilly Valley Pinot Noir, Ragazzi Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo, Syrah, Malbec, La Signora field red, and Profondo (Old vine Cabernet/Malbec).

The Casa Freschi Altezza vineyard, perched up on the high (Alt 600m) steep, cool, rocky slopes of the Adelaide Hills consistently produces exceptional wine. Half of its planting is dedicated to chardonnay, a variety that thrives and expresses the beauty and energy of the site wonderfully. On the weekend of the 29th, 30th and 31st May, we are offering a vertical tasting of our Chardonnay from 2007 to our pre-release 2024. The cost is $70pp . Bookings are essential.

Our last parcel of fruit into the winery for vintage 2026 but also the first Nebbiolo from our Altezza vineyard in Ashton. Four years ago, the best Nebbiolo vine material (11 clones) was selected from our Langhorne Creek Profondo vineyard and grafted onto 22 year old rootstock in our Adelaide Hills Altezza vineyard. The quality of fruit is exceptional across all varieties in 2026, with above average yields. Can’t wait to see how they evolve! Autumn is now showing its full array of colours. Our cellar door is open all Anzac Day weekend including Monday and… we have complimentary freshly roasted estate chestnuts for you to enjoy with a glass of delicious Casa Freschi wine. 😊

I’m so in love with , picked for Rosato today at our Profondo vineyard in Langhorne Creek. With 16 variations of clones/rootstocks planted 27 years ago , each with their own identity , I have plenty of genetic diversity available creating lovely complexity in the finished wines. Now for a soft press and into barrel.

Introducing two new wines from our two special vineyards. From the 2024 vintage, one of our lowest yielding in our 27 year history but extraordinary in quality, our two field blends which capture a time and a place. From our Profondo vineyard in Langhorne Creek the “La Signora”, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec from our 52 year old vines, with Nebbiolo of vine age 26 years. From our high altitude Altezza vineyard in Ashton the “La Signorina”, a blend of Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay, partially fermented with its whole berries and bunches. Introducing the 2023 vintage of our three flagship wines, Profondo, Nebbiolo and Chardonnay. Each represent the very best of our two, special vineyards in Langhorne Creek and Ashton, Adelaide Hills.
Profondo is from the best parcels of fruit from our 1972 plantings, this year a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Malbec, inspired by the great first growths of Bordeaux. Nebbiolo, from the best parcels planted in 1999, given long maceration and long elevage in large format French oak, inspired by the great reds of the Piedmont. Chardonnay, from the best parcels planted in 2004, 9 months sur lie in seasoned French oak barriques, inspired by the great whites of the Côte d’Or.
