We love heirlooms! We love the history, the diversity and the quality. Here are a few hidden treasures we will have available at our next Seedling Sale on Saturday, October 24th.

Dragon’s Egg is a smooth skinned cucumber with sweet and fresh tasting fruits in the shape of an egg! This Croatian heirloom climbs up to 2m so ensure you have a support in place.

Sugar Baby is a sweet watermelon with compact rather than sprawling growth. Despite being a compact plant you can expect up to 4 melons of 3kg each in only 10 weeks!

Huerfano Bliss on the other hand has vigorous growth and sweet melons with the skin turning from pale green to yellow when they are ready to be picked. Named from the Huerfano River in Southern Colorado.

Ha’Ogen is a sweet, succulent and fragrant Hungarian heirloom. This super productive vine can give up to 14 fruits weighing 900g per vine. The green flesh turns yellow when it is ripe and generally takes about 14 weeks.

Planter’s Jumbo loves a hot summer (which is what we have predicted for us) and is resistant to powdery mildew. This is a compact, semi bushing variety which works equally well in raised beds or large containers as it does in the ground.

Cucamelon, also known as Mouse Melon or Mexican Sour Gherkins are super easy and fun to grow.
They have small leaves and tendrils that love to climb but can be trained to grow around any frame you choose. The bite sized fruits are like a fresh cucumber with lemon juice. Children love them too. A Mexican heirloom that is delicious in salads, eaten straight from the vine, or pickled and makes for a super conversation starter.

Melons in general like a long hot growing season, so get them in as soon as possible (but still keep an eye out for or surprise frosts and protect as needed).

We have some wonderful seedlings coming long with us to The Co-op Growers Market this Thursday.

Delicious Cucumbers, fantastic Tomatoes and as always a range of vegetable, herb and flower seedlings to suit gardens all across the Southern Highlands.

We open at 2:30 and will be there until 5pm.

The Bowral Co-op now has late night shopping hours on Thursday evenings until 7pm, so you can pick up some potting mix, carrot seeds or chicken food after visiting the local Farmers Market.

We have a sensational selection of Single Cells available this Seedling Sale.

From colourful Corn, Sunflowers in all sizes, essential companion plants Calendula, Marigold and Alyssum, luscious Lettuce, and more!

Have a good read through the list. At $1 each these seedlings make it easy to fill the garden with both colour and food.

If you can’t plant them the day you buy, add a handful of potting mix around them and keep watering until you get a chance.

We have Brassicas back! Sugarloaf Cabbages are the best choice for summer growing so we have a green and red option. Monty Broccoli is heat tolerant while Marathon is a year round variety that sends out side shoots after the first head is harvested.

There are our first Cosmos and Zinnias for the season (next time, 24/10, there will be an abundance of both), and the first time we have had Everlasting Daisies as single cells.

Keep on slug and snail patrol, especially around the sunflowers as they are a favourite. 🐌 🌻

We are back this Saturday, October 10th from 8:30-3pm. We have an extraordinary range this Saturday with Cucumbers, Pumpkins, Melons, Corn, Sunflowers, Tomatillos added to our fantastic collection of Tomatoes, Chillies, Capsicum, Eggplants and Zucchini.

We have the wonderful Ronde de Nice Zucchini back along with a the mini Cucumber Poco Snack, both of which are always fun choices in the garden.

We have colourful Corn and Sunflowers in single cells so you can fill up any space you have left!

We are back The Co-op Growers Market on Thursday with a selection of our seedlings. This is the place to visit if you want to have a long chat or ask your gardening or soil questions with us, or chat to local growers and producers about what they do. Our Saturday Seedling Sales are bustling but The Co-op Growers Market gives us a bit more time to chat. We love both!

Once again we are bringing some of our exciting Tomato varieties with a combination of different sized and coloured fruits. We have selected hoping to see some after school visitors, so Fat Frog, Honeybee, Lucky Tiger and Tigerella are all coming along.
A different selection of Chillies to last week and new Zucchini, Eggplant and Capsicum options too.

We have punnets of mixed Sweet Peas in the most glorious shades. These are not your average varieties, these were selected for their colours and fragrance. The punnets are mixed so it’s a fun ‘wait and see’ while they grow, but we can promise they will be delightful.

We have some lovely herbs coming this week: Basil, Dill, Coriander, Parsley, Chervil, Summer Thyme, and Rosemary. Literally everything you need for sensational summer meals.

Our next Seedling Sale is Saturday, October 10th, from 8:30am until 3pm.

We will be adding Cucumbers, Pumpkins, Winter Squash, Melons, Corn, Sunflowers, Nasturtiums, unusual Basil’s, Marigolds, Cosmos, and some new Brassicas.

There is still Tomatoes, Chillies, Capsicum, Eggplants and Zucchini including new varieties of each.

All these and plenty more of course!

We have a great range of Tomatoes coming to The Co-op Growers Market today.
Cherry Tomatoes in various colours and larger sizes of heirloom varieties too.
There will be some dwarf and one micro tomatoes too!

Four Chilli options, along with various Capsicum, Zucchini and Eggplants.

Punnets of Flanders Poppies along with a smaller selection of herbs and other flowers this week (to make space for the Tomatoes).

2:30-4:30 today at Bowral Co-op.

Thank you to everyone who visited us on Saturday. We truly appreciate your support.

For those who couldn’t make this weekend we will take a great selection of Tomatoes to The Co-op Growers Market this Thursday afternoon.

There will also be plenty available on October 10th, including some new varieties particularly for those with shorter warm seasons in Robertson, Bundanoon and Penrose.

Enjoy any time you get to garden in the next few weeks. It’s such a wonderful time of the year in the garden. 🌱💚

We are (mostly) ready for you and guarantee we will be fully ready at 8:30am on the dot!

We are truly so excited for you to see our beautiful seedlings and choose the ones you wish to grow, eat and enjoy all summer long.

As you can see on the Chilli signs we include the Scoville heat rating so you choose a spice level that suits you.

We include photos on all of our signs to help give some insight. We recommend if you are trying something new take a photo of the sign for future reference (especially if you lose the labels in the garden sometimes).

Tomatoes are grouped in the same sections we listed. So if you are after a Dwarf tomato look in that section, and if you are looking for a climbing cherry tomato you will find them all together (and in alphabetical order)!

Leafy vegetables are together, as are herbs and flowers.

If you can’t spot what you need please ask.

There is lovely shade under the big trees so dogs won’t get too hot, or if you need to take a moment out of the hot sun.

We will be available to help with questions all day, but just a reminder the lovely helpers on the Single Cells tables may not have the answers to all your questions. They will however get all your single cells without any fuss. We do have helpers to carry your seedlings to the car if needed too.

Please remember to bring a box or tray with you. We will run out of what we have in a flash!
