In early 2020, just after the fires, and as COVID quarantine was kicking in my dad took be out to the Cumberland State Forest Nursury to pick up one of my favourite plants, Angophora hispida.
I have grown one of these at every house I have lived in over the past 30 years. It has the strong smell of honey, beautiful buds and flowers and grows easily from seed.
In summer they are always covered in Fiddler Beetles (Eupoecila australasiae) and I have been waiting for almost 5 years to see if they will turn up in Bombay.
A few weeks ago, I noticed flower buds on both of the hispidas I planted, and today (New Year's Day 2025) I was delighted to see that the flowers have opened and at least one Fiddler Beetle is here to enjoy the nectar.
Angophora hispida is not endemic to Bombay, but there are reports of Eupoecila australasiae in Bungendore and the ACT.
Tomorrow I will be sure to report the sighting on iNaturalist.
