Our apologies: we will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday, the 9th of November) because we can't quite get enough volunteers to staff the kitchen but we'll be back with renewed energy on Thursday!

We are closed this Saturday. With many of the volunteers away or in exams, and with many of us working on Sunday's fete, we don't have enough people to safely staff the kitchen. However, we will more than make up for it on Sunday! See you all at the Jacaranda Fete!

Looking for a social outing for my mum and sister who live in Moorooka. Do you do activities? Anything that one can interact and just talk to others?
Brisbane’s housing situation at crisis point. Rents and property values have skyrocketed and thousands of people are homeless, sleeping in tents or cars.
The State Government has signalled that it won’t do anything to strengthen renters’ rights or put downward pressure on rents, and with the Olympics on the horizon, I'm really worried that housing costs could continue rising further.
Simply boosting supply and approving developers to build more private apartments clearly isn't working. In fact, many new developments seem to be accelerating gentrification and displacement of low-income residents. This is particularly the case in areas like Moorooka, where a new Neighbourhood Plan could push up housing costs, including rents and council rates.
So what alternative, positive solutions are out there?
Join us for afternoon tea at the The Moorooka Social Space for a lively discussion about structural solutions to housing system injustices. I'll be joined by Jonathan Sri, Councillor for The Gabba, Karyn Walsh from Micah Projects and Cameron Murray, an economist specialising in property and urban development.
