Idle, the new iteration of Agnes Bakery, is finally here 😌 with a new and expanded menu and some returning favourites, this bakery has something to offer for savoury lovers and sweet tooths alike! Although by what I had you can tell I'm a sweet pastry gal myself 😆

We had:
Rhubarb Brown Butter Danish
Strawberry, Thyme Tart
Pistacchio Cake
Tonka Bean Kouign Amann

My personal fav was that rhubarb danish, with rhubarbs poached to sweet perfection and a flaky, croissant like pastry to die for, though that strawberry tart comes in a close second. My friend also rates the tonka bean kouign amann, and as a sucker for a kouign amann i will defo be back for 😋 I did like the pistachio cake too, but probably my least fav amongst the lot here, they're definitely better at those pastries imo (although if they keep the same recipe Agnes used for that basque cheesecake it will be a winner)

Another month, another stunner of a meal 😌😌

Here’s what we had:
Stockyard Rump Cap, Bullhorn Peppers, Green Coriander Seed, Rakkyo Onion ($56)
Grilled Octopus, Nori, Green Chilli ($28)
Local Goldbans Snapper, Rocky Point Cobia, Ora King Salmon, Ponzu, Lemon ($36)
Moreton Bay Bug Toast ($12 ea)
Southern Calamari, Pickled Mussel, Fennel, Burnt Butter Dashi ($28)
Cold Braised Spinach & Mustard Oil ($15)
Seasoned French Fries ($12)
Valrhona chocolate, caramelised miso, peanuts & sesame
Cotton soft yuzu cheesecake, poached rhubarb & Chantilly cream

I really liked everything, but if I had to pick a favourite? That calamari salad 🤩🤩 tender-as calamari, and that burnt butter dashi? Oml I could slurp up a whole jug, literally drooling thinking about it now 🤤🤤 2nd and 3rd place deco go to the rump cap and sashimi respectively

Another week, another sandwich spot 💪🏻
I've been obsessed with sandwiches since that previous one I had, I even decided to meal prep sandwiches last week 😅 since my sangers were no match to the ones from outside, I decided to drop by Ham on Rye since I was in the area!

Reuben ($18)

The Reuben has probably been my fav sandwich ever since my trip to NYC, and this was a solid reason why. Salty pastrami, sauerkraut and pickles to cut through that saltiness and good ol russian dressing and cheese. shoutout to the guy at the shop who told me to get it toasted, was such a great shout!

Could this be my new favourite casual Thai eatery in Brisbane?

Thai food has always been something I liked but never gravitated towards, with the abundance of Vietnamese, Japanese and Italian joints in Brisbane giving me plenty to obsess over. This might be about to change with this new discovery. We had:

Crispy School Prawn ($12.20)
Duck & Sweet Potato Yellow Curry ($23.29)
Pad Se Ew Chicken ($18.20)

Genuinely cannot decide which of these dishes I liked the best, pad se ew is a classic for a reason and I love the wok flavour in the noodles, but that crispy skin on the duck and rich, thick curry would bring me to my knees 😫😫 Will defo be back to try more of their curries and dishes!

Sometimes, the rain makes your plans go awry. But when life gives you lemons, go to Mr Chester and you won't have lemonade, but a good glass of wine and a great feed.

Pasta alla Puttanesca
Swiss Raclette Cheese ($15)
Arancini ($12)

Probably one of my fav variations of puttanesca I've had in Brissy, simple but executed so well with the flavour of the squid ink pasta not being overpowered by the capers, olives and cherry toms in the sauce. The arancini was also the size of a golf ball (huge) and filled with a rich ragu. Cheese was nutty and good too! Really liked the honey and fig jam(?) they paired with it 😋

Work lunch has given me the opportunity to try different foods (mostly gyg) but of the recent work lunches, this has to be my favourite 😋

The Mortadella Sandwich ($17.40) comes with warm truffle mortadella herby mayo, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles, all sandwiched between Japanese shokupan bread. This results in a moreish sanger thats hitting all the right spots on texture and flavour. Oh how I love sandwiches 😌

Their chips are pretty yum too

Mortadella Scrambled Egg Drop Milk Bread ($22)
Soft, milky and buttery bread, with a solid french-like scramble to boot. This sanger’s pain point was surprisingly the mortadella, which is usually my favourite Italian cold cut but just felt a little lackluster. A great sando regardless, can’t wait to come back and try that prawn omurice 😍

P.s. they also do a good coffee and a great hojicha 😌

Tonkotsu Ramen ($17, but $10 from 5-6pm on Mondays and Tuesdays)
This might be my new favourite bowl of ramen in Brissy, especially after finding out they do $10 bowls from 5-6pm every monday and tuesday 🤯🤯 early dinner anyone?
