FINALLY went to after literal YEARS of hearing the hype, and then regurgitating that hype to my friends!

Honestly..... it was everything I could have possibly wanted it to be.Β

We got:
πŸ– the short rib sandwich with beef tallow gravy
πŸ” The big mcelvoy. Which is 2 smashed patties AND brisket in a big mac-esque burger.Β
🍟 Their signature chips.

Everything was great. The short rib sandwich was the winner I would say, but the big mcelvoy was exactly as advertised and definitely ruled. The chips were deceptively great, and were crispy with a great seasoning on them.Β
Special mention to their barbecue sauce which tasted exactly like if barbecue sauce and a pineapple had a baby.Β

In one day, I found the best barbecue and the best barbecue sauce I've ever had.Β
Believe the hype.Β

The Mornington Peninsula Hop Culture Session IPA remains one of the best "session anythings" I've had.

Now, this photo is super old and it's been a long time since I had it, but this was a go-to beer of mine.

Full flavoured but not heavy enough to force an early night on you, it was just a super satisfying IPA but with less effect than your standard.

I'm dusting off some beers that have been sitting in my fridge for "special occasions" and naturally, I'm getting to the point where a special occasion includes Friday nights because I'm leaving it too close to the expiry date.

Range's Illusions I: Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout was a delicious treat for "Friday-night-me." Range has always done stouts very well so I was confident in this stout series they dropped last year.
I've already had one of each of this series, but had kept one of each drop left over for my special "Friday nights at home" series that I created out of necessity.

πŸ“Έ Also, as you can see by my photos, this series is also the first of my "Let's see how awkwardly I can hold a beer" series. My personal favourites are photo 2, "man perches beer on crab claw"; and photo 3, "man crookedly holds beer to infuriate on-lookers".

🍫 This beer promised to deliver hints of vanilla, cinnamon, figs and chocolate, and it did well in balancing them all along with the classic whiskey barrel-aged flavour. The whiskey element ALWAYS hits me first as 18 year old me ruined rum for life, so it's always a bit touch and go for a second when reintroducing anything similar or in the family tree.

Really enjoyed this beer though. Deep flavour and richness that's perfect for night-time beer treats.

Great hangs with Ki before she heads back to Switzerland,

Including some next level coffee and scrambled eggs at the mighty Supernumerary. Unbelievably good.

Gutted to see the news that is shutting its doors.

Honestly, I felt like Newstead would be one of the least likely places to close, despite all the issues with flooding. But here we are. Times are undoubtedly tough.

I used to frequent Newstead when I worked across the street from it and always had a great time. Not just due to their range of bangin' beers but also because it's a sweet venue and hang in general.

It's also where I won my second thing EVER too! πŸ†
They ran a competition a few years ago when they were switching from bottles to cans and they did a promo with this thing called a carpark shed. They filled it with cans and made a sped up video of it, and if you guessed the right number of cans, you won the shed plus 13 cartons of beer 🍻, merch and a bunch of other stuff!

🧠 Ya boi guessed it! I was AND STILL DO remain stoked about it.

So this is a massive bummer. They are a massive part of Brisbane's beer scene and culture, and will leave a giant hole.

Suuuuper old can artwork in this old photo for this classic drop from Slipstream Brewing, but the beer is more than deserving of it's moment in the sun.

Yes, I get that we're in the middle of having ZERO sun above us with "The Cyclone formerly known as Alfred" hanging over our heads. But it doesn't mean we can't focus on better, sunnier, and even BEERIER times.

Slipstream's G-Force IPA deserves to be up there with the best core range IPA's in Australia. In my opinion, it's as good as any.

Let's look at the credentials:
🍺 It's 6.5%, so it's not here to ......spend some personal time with arachnids...so to speak.
🍊 It's got massive grapefruit flavour throughout that ACTUALLY tastes like grapefruit, whilst still being in the West Coast family of IPA's. (there were no grapefruit emoji's btw)
🍻 It's uncannily sessionable for a big ol boi.

It's easily been one of my most bought beers of the past 5 years without a doubt. Check it out!

should be on your pizza radar for best in Brisbane.

They have no weakness! The sauce, the toppings, the freshness....BUT THE DOUGH....I feel like a good pizza HAS TO have amazing dough.
These guys have that in spades, and do 72 hour fermentation I believe (don't quote me, unless I'm right). The crust even got some limelight, as you can see in the 2nd photo.

I gave them a glowing review last year and nothing has changed this year. They are awesome.
They are also smack-bang in the middle of the mighty in Seventeen Mile Rocks, so find your way there for a delicious night.

This was a previous special they had - salami, jalapenos, hot honey.... Unbelievable dude!

Balter hangs.

Circa 2023 btw, incase the upstairs has changed a bit since then.

But yeah, Balter in Currumbin is always a good time. Good beer, good people, good hangs.

Also, if you have kids and you don't really want them to be on devices, you gotta be creative.
Here we have a game of "blow down an octonaut with a straw". Very niche, yes.
Effective?????.....Kinda...

Lastly, since becoming a dad around 10 years ago, my intake of Snap and Uno has SKYROCKETED. But I'm not complaining, they do officially rule.

I realise at this stage that this page is at least 50% a "Brisbane Beer History" page, with how many I call back to. However....change is tough, and I like to look back at some of history's most delicious moments.

Aether's "Velour Fog: Nitro Milk Chocolate Stout" is one of those moments. Again partnering with the mighty , they chucked out this decadent stout that was massively chocolatey without being a liquid dessert.

This was one of my earlier experiences with nitro beers also, so I'm not sure if I got absolutely everything out of this beer that I could of, but I did like it a lot. All the flavours were there and it was a brilliant winter beer in particular.

My favourite of the two collaborations between and Flour and Chocolate would still be their Beesting beer, but this was still one that deserved your time.
