Our best-selling “meal in a bag” for the first time ever, we’re sharing the secret sauce behind it.

This by far is the Cleanest, Easiest Red Lentil Dahl ✨
Warm, nourishing, & of course low-tox this one’s become a favourite for a reason and it’s whipped up in 15 mins

Ingredients:
100g white basmati rice
150g red lentils
3g ginger powder
3g garam masala
2g turmeric
2g ground coriander
2g ground cumin
2g sweet paprika

Just add:
1 brown onion (diced)
2 garlic cloves (diced)
2 Tbsp olive oil
190g chopped tomatoes
390ml vegetable stock
220ml coconut or cashew cream
Salt + pepper

Method:
1️⃣ Cook rice 10–15 mins and set aside.
2️⃣ Sauté onion + garlic in olive oil until soft.
3️⃣ Add spices and cook 1 min until fragrant.

Another one that’s been hidden in my notes & camera roll but you guys seem to love learning these hidden toxins as much as me so here goes

Let’s talk about L-cysteine — the hidden “ingredient” in many supermarket breads.

Traditionally, L-cysteine has been derived from human hair or duck feathers—yes, really. These were the cheapest and most common sources for a long time globally, including in Australia.

In recent years, some manufacturers have shifted to synthetic or microbial fermentation sources, especially for products marketed as vegetarian or Halal/Kosher compliant. However, many conventional and non-labeled breads may still use the animal-derived version.

Most people have no idea that this dough conditioner—used to extend shelf life and make bread softer—is often made from human hair or duck feathers. Yep… you read that right. 🥴

In Australia, L-cysteine (often listed as E920) is still used in many mass-produced breads and frozen doughs. While some manufacturers now use a synthetic or lab-grown version, the facts still stand:

👉 We’re not being told the truth.
👉 There’s no clear labeling of where it comes from.
👉 And do we even need it?

This isn’t about fear—it’s about transparency. You deserve to know what you’re feeding your family.

And let’s be real: a synthetic version doesn’t make it “better.” It’s still a highly processed, unnecessary additive used to speed up production and save costs—not to nourish us.

If you’re choosing low-tox, wholefoods, or you’re simply trying to cut out the junk—this is one to watch for. Because not all bread is created equal.

What you can do:
• If you’re low-tox, plant-based, or concerned, avoid breads with “L-cysteine” or “E920” all together
• Support organic or artisan bakeries that use minimal ingredients and avoid processing aids altogether.
