Ken Matsuyama of is a global bourbon icon. Starting with his bar in Shinjuku 20 odd years ago, Ken Has earnt a reputation of collecting and selecting some of the best barrels going around categorised by the “Ken’s Choice” labels.

We’ve been lucky enough to see some of the world’s greatest bourbon collections and this one ranks right up there adding to that the character that is Ken. Humble, hospitable and hungry for knowledge.

Something seriously surprising. 34yo Glenmorangie 1974. This was an absolute gem shared with us by our UK retailer Hedonism W**es. This dram spends 19 years in bourbon casks then goes for a 15 year swim in French Premier Grand Cru claret casks. Thats not finishing but double maturation. Highly unusual and therefore super rare. really pushed the experimental boat out here and we’re certainly here for it. This is a complex wh**ky and one to sit down with and really delve through the layers here in both smell and taste. Best do that properly in **kyglass. The highlights here is one incredible palette especially considering the age of this wh**ky. Think oily orchard fruit with spice like cumin and anise, then a silky roasted citrus finished complemented by coffee’d milk chocolate blackberry. See what we mean by complex. Stellar wh**ky.

It’s always a blast to hear (fan)tales of the past,
Bourbon 101 from Jimmy — a Tradition built to last.

So Bruce, his grandson, came down under,
A Rare Breed of Russell, bringing Kentucky thunder.

With Kentucky Spirit and bottles from the archive,
Old Austin Nichols Turkeys brought back alive.

From 8 to 12, 13 and more,
Dusties and decanters we’d not seen poured before.

Split Labels, Cheesy Gold Foil — collector’s gold,
Each dusty old Turkey with a story to be told.

Beyond Duplication, 1855,
Rare old birds, still kicking, poured back to life.

A Russell’s Reserve of stories running deep,
Some made to be opened, some Master’s Keep.

A little Tribute to Jimmy, a nod to Eddie too,
With Bruce filling the gaps only a Russell could do.

We ate, drank and talked till well into the night,
At Goodwater, where the Turkey took flight.

Simply put, Rachel is one of the greats in the Wh**ky world. Putting her name to some of the greatest single malts of all time. Across 2 episodes, we sat down with Rachel to talk all things Glendronach, blending and being the world’s first female master blender.

This post also serves as a huge thank you to Rachel for generously giving us so much of time to shoot this piece. 🙏🏼
