Happy Belated Birthday Farmer Richard! 🎂🤠
If you’ve been following our journey, you already know this man is something special, but let us remind you just how special.
Since we last introduced him, Richard has added another title to his already impressive list, master builder behind our on farm abattoir here in the South West of Western Australia, designed and built by the two of us together. But that’s just one piece of the puzzle.
On any given day you’ll find him boots on the ground in the paddock alongside and I, keeping our regenerative Wagyu herd and our soil happy, because at Belvedere Valley, being the best grass farmers we can be is what drives everything we do. 🐂🌿
He’s still the ag mechanic to a couple of very special customers who wouldn’t trust their machinery to anyone else. He innovates, he problem solves, he shows up, every single day.
We genuinely need to clone this man.
And he’s celebrating his birthday, with a smile on his face, still singing and whistling, less than a week after losing his dad, a man he was very close to and so very like.
Richard, you are our #1 guy. The glue that holds us all together in this fun, crazy farming family! 🐂❤️🤠

We’re incredibly grateful to have Belvedere Valley featured by ABC Rural this week.

This project has given us a whole lot of extra work with plenty of challenges along the way, but we truly believe Australian farmers deserve more control over how their animals are raised, processed, and shared with the community.

Our goal has always been simple: keep every step on farm, reduce stress on animals, and create a transparent, regenerative organic system from soil to steak.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. We’re excited for what’s coming next. You can read the full story here 👇 https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Jv83PTCTh/?mibextid=wwXIfr

These are the neighbours we farm for 🖤

Red-tailed black cockatoos are becoming rare in the southwest, and habitat loss is a big part of the story. Even a dead limb can mean safety, shelter, and connection for wildlife.

Regenerative farming isn’t just about soil health.
It’s about protecting habitat, biodiversity, and the life that exists alongside our cattle.

Farming for life beyond the fence 🌱

Mega fail! 🤪 When you think you can chase an emu out of the area you’ve been irrigating… and then forget which way to push the lever to go back and up 😅
I went back and down instead, straight into the long grass (yes, you can literally see it happen). Drone was fine, pride slightly dented 😂

Also, those little “arm” feathers at the front are its tiny wings. Emus can’t fly, but the wings help with balance and control when they’re sprinting, and they’re used for display too. Built-in stabilisers, basically.

Belvedere Valley, 2025 recap

2025 was the year we stopped talking about “one day” and started laying the foundations.

At the beginning of the year we made a call, we would build our own on farm micro abattoir so we can control our own process, protect animal welfare, keep our food miles low, and guarantee our own carcasses back, every time.

This year we,
Gained approvals to process up to 24 cattle per week, which means we can help other beef farmers as well. Secured Development Approval, EPA approvals, and DPIRD approval,
Shared our plan publicly, including front page of our local paper,
Spoke on 7 Regional News about why farmers need better options, and why closed loop processing matters.

Behind the scenes, we designed our closed loop system with one clear goal, turn abattoir by-products into soil amendments so nothing valuable is wasted, and so the farm keeps getting better, season after season.

A big highlight was having our daughter Rylee come on board in a bigger way. Together we completed the FarmElevate program, and kept learning through grazing and regenerative workshops. Rylee also took 30 soil samples in every one of the 15 paddocks set out for our rotational grazing, to set a baseline for the work ahead, because we want to measure what we improve, not just talk about it.

I spent a big chunk of the year on funding applications, the outcomes will be shared in 2026.

I also attended the Regenerative Food Systems Conference in Perth, and came home with a full notebook and a very full head, in the best way.

And none of this happens without Richard, always on the tools, fixing, building, making do, and doing what needs doing to help fund the micro abattoir and keep the whole place moving.

We’re proud of what we’ve built this year, even if most of it can’t be photographed yet.

January 2026 we start building with a whole lot of exciting things to come.

Thank you for backing Belvedere Valley, and for caring about how your food is produced.

This time of year is all about feeding the soil before winter slows things down.

We’re using two of our favourite handmade soil boosters:
• Compost tea, made here on farm to increase microbial activity
• And fish emulsion, created from local fish waste — the offcuts and frames generously shared by the fishermen and women at Windy Harbour.

Yes, it’s a little smelly while it brews — but the nutrients from our Southern Ocean are incredible. Rich in minerals and life, this liquid gold helps our pastures thrive, naturally.

Looking ahead, we’re especially excited to soon be using waste material from our own micro abattoir as part of our fertility program — from blood and bone to organ matter and hides. Using the whole animal not only honours the life of the cow, it gives back to the land that sustains us.

Closed-loop farming. Nothing wasted. Everything respected.
