"King Island is anchored in the middle of the Bass Strait between Victoria and Tasmania’s North West coast. Surrounded by some of Australia’s most beautiful beaches, King Island imports the world’s best surfers and exports produce sought by the world’s top chefs." (King Island Tourism)
The King Island Long Table Festival concept came from a desire to showcase the islands beautiful fresh produce, from the famous dairy, beef and seafood to lesser known elements such as quail eggs, kelp, mutton birds, wallaby, honey, sea salt, biodynamically grown fruit and vegetables and more. The three day event kicks off with a day of Farm Tours that allow people to get an inside look at how King Island produce is grown and to meet some of the unique individuals that call this piece of paradise home. The evening features a welcome drinks and local art exhibition at the Portside Links Gallery at Grassy in the islands south. Day two is an intimate cooking session with 2016 feature chef Tom Dicker and his team. This is followed by a market at the local school that gives the producers and crafters of the island a chance to show off their talents to locals and visitors alike. Day three – the main event. The Long Table Lunch, a sumptuous nine course meal prepared by our visiting chef, each course highlighting King Island produce. A time to eat, drink and be merry with one of the best views on King Island. For more information on the event, please visit our website http://www.kingislandlongtable.com/
