With the rolling back of clocks imminent as daylight savings wraps up for winter this coming weekend, we too are rolling out some clock-related adjustments with an updated set of trading hours for our Newtown store. Nothing too drastic - just a tweak to better align our timing with when you all prefer to shop instore!

Thursday through Saturday we’re still here 10am-thru-9pm, but starting April 7th we’re now rocking 12pm-8pm Monday to Wednesday, and a nice’n’easy 11am-7pm on Sunday.

Online store is of course still there for you 24/7 and as always, if you can’t make it into the shop, there’s our ever-reliable same day lodal delivery for orders placed before midday, mon-Fri. Full list of eligible suburbs and postcodes available on the website!

Saturday 14MAR 2-4pm +++ Throughout a career that has spanned more than two decades, Tim Stock has made significant and lasting impressions in the industry. The award-winning sommelier first turned heads for his innovation in the restaurant landscape, before switching things up to focus on importing and distribution through his GoodStock wines portfolio. Through GoodStock, Tim has been responsible for introducing Australia to intriguing local wines alongside high-end and rare imports. He’s also THE importer of Georgian wines with a singular focus on the resurgent natural winemakers of that remarkable wine-growing country.

Here’s a new one: Vietnamese rice wine! True, it’s been woven deeply into Vietnam’s culture for millennia, but it’s finding a renewed rhythm at Sông Cái Distillery in Hanoi.

Sông Cái is the brainchild of Californian-born biological engineer Daniel Nguyen, who landed in Vietnam along with the US advisory team for sustainable development in the Mekong Delta. Moved by a decline in indigenous crops and farms chasing yield over value, he decided to work more closely with foragers and ethnic groups to better understand and preserve heirloom produce. At Sông Cái, those interests and aims spring to life. 

The Hanoi-based business is Vietnam’s first fully Vietnamese-owned distillery, winery and fermentation lab, bottling everything from gin and amaro to rice wine and tonics, sodas, miso, soy sauce, vinegar and more. What makes these stand tall is the pinpoint focus on fermentation in play – native yeast cultures, locally sourced bacteria, endemic microbes, all proper wild stuff.  

We’ll be damned if these aren’t some of the most untamed, outside-the-box and truly charismatic drinks we’ve ever sold – and we’re pleased as punch to have five cuvées at our disposal for you.

These wondrous drinks will be available for you to taste *FREE OF CHARGE* in our Newtown courtyard this Friday, 20 February between 5.30-7.30pm with importer Hamish Williams here to answer any questions and unlock the magic. Tell your friends, tell your neighbours, come and get it!

Saturday 07FEB - amazing tasting at Newtown! Join Paddy, the founder of Qatsi, and hear of his journey from sommelier to tea enthusiast which began after 15 years in the wine industry where, after a VERY short stint in horticulture, he discovered the fascinating world of Camellia sinensis. Paddy was immediately struck by the parallels between tea and wine—how a single plant can produce such diverse flavours through unique terroir and meticulous cultivation. This obsession eventually took him to Japan, where he immersed himself in the tea fields, drank tea with the farmers and delved deep into the world of Japanese tea. Now, through Qatsi, Paddy is bringing that same sense of discovery and excitement to Australia, offering authentic Japanese teas that are as rich in story as they are in flavour. This is a tasty for the ages!
