When it rains, it pours, both metaphorically and literally 🥲

Yesterday, while doing the rounds in torrential rain, we noticed the littlest little boy in the flock was missing 😭

After going for a walk to find him, we discovered he was dragging his back leg. It was one of those awful moments where you just know something is really wrong, like in the movies when a limb is just flopping.

We rushed him straight to the vet, and it turns out he has a spiral fracture 🤦‍♀️

He’s not out of the woods yet, but his leg has been casted and we’re hoping so hard for a full recovery. For now, he’s joined our goat girl with one toe in the shed recovery ward 😅

We truly love these animals and love what we do, but wow… they really know how to push us to our limits sometimes.

Fingers crossed this beautiful little angel makes a full recovery 🩷🩷

FARM UPDATE!! 6 weeks ago, one of our little babies came to dinner on only three legs. We gave her a day to see if it would improve, but she was completely non-weight bearing, so off to the vet we went thinking it might just be an abscess or something minor.

Well… nope. This little pest had dislocated and fractured a toe. Honestly, what do goats get up to all day?! 🤯

After long discussions with the vet, we decided to put the toe back in place and cast it for a few weeks. We attempted to turn her into a house goat (briefly 😅), but she and her companion ended up with nappy rash 🤦‍♀️ so they moved to the shed… where they promptly escaped every enclosure we tried. Eventually, they ended up living in a box trailer. Goats…🙃

Fast-forward to 6 weeks later, yesterday her cast started slipping. The vets advised the next step would be amputation of the digit, so here we are. After a half-hour surgery, little Lily the pygmy goat has officially lost one of her claws.

For context (because farming reality): she also has three ni***es, so we can’t even breed from her 🫠 But we love these goats, we chose this life and we couldn’t just euthanise her without trying 💛

Now we wait and make sure she’s comfortable on one less toe, which the vet has assured us she will adapt to just fine.

What she lacks in toes, she makes up for in nips 😅🐐

WARNING ⚠️ sad photos ahead

My darling little Penny finally had her babies 🩷💙

Little girl Lily is absolutely adorable and beautiful and very happy with her colouring and size. I am obsessed with her, although I’m very biased cause she’s Penny’s, and Penny is slowly adjusting to motherhood 😅

Little man, who was an absolute spitting image of his dad, was breech and asphyxiated during birth. He tried to live for a few minutes, and I did everything in my power to help, but the little darlin soon passed 💔

Absolutely heartbroken, but it wasn’t anything that we could have done, just bad luck. Poor little man 💙

I have to remind myself to have gratitude that out of nine mums this year, we’ve only lost this little guy. It’s all part of journey and it does happen unfortunately. It gets easier over time but never less heartbreaking 💔

Only three more mums to go for the year and they’ve already kidded very successfully before so hoping for smooth sailing from here 🥰

Wish us luck! 🩷

✨🐑 Baby Sheep Alert! 🚨

It’s been a little while since we’ve shared an update, but we are SO excited to announce that all 6 of our girls have had their babies… and every single one is happy and healthy! 🙏💛

Over the years, we’ve faced plenty of challenges, complications and death. But with experience (and a lot of love), we’ve learned so much and are now better prepared to support our mums and their bubbas.

This season, two of our girls did it all on their own, while the other four needed a helping hand – and we were right there, ready to step in (and the vet once too!). Nothing compares to the joy of bringing these beautiful little lambs safely into the world. 🥹✨

Welcome to the flock, little ones! 🌸🐑💫
