Jateebee Red Brangus

Jateebee Red Brangus The focus at Jateebee is to breed thick, easy doing and finishing, fertile cattle that will suit most markets.

Jack and Mim Walker’s Jateebee Red Brangus is a commercially oriented stud based at Theodore where stud breeders are run alongside the family’s larger commercial herd on forest country and native pastures. The progeny are grown out on scrub country with buffel and legume pastures, producing heavy feeder cattle and grassfed EU, MSA and PCAS bullocks and surplus heifers. Fertility is of utmost impor

tance at Jateebee and cattle are regularly challenged by country type and season and selected heavily on their reproductive performance.

Sorting through some number 5 bulls for sale in spring. This year’s sale draft will include the first sons of Bonox 1575, including the bull in the picture being scratched; aptly named Jateebee Bruce.

Thinking of all those who have been affected by floods. We first met the Seymour family at Beef 2012 when they bought their first Jateebee red brangus bull off us. Hopefully Lizard can find the rest of the heifers.

Amid the damage from flooding in Central Queensland, tales of livestock surviving are emerging, including one cow's incredible waterlogged journey.

Calving is almost finished in the stud cows and thankfully the cows are enjoying plenty of green grass to give their bubs a good milk bar.
Interestingly, to date there are 28% heifers and 72% bull calves. We usually run at a 40:60 heifer to bull calves ratio but this year we are punching like China.
In other stats, calves by ET make up 19%, calves by AI make up 28% and there is a 53% balance of natural joinings. Within each of these joining types the male to female ratio is similar.

It’s that time of the year when we run an AI program in our stud cows and the commercial heifers. This is a mob of predominantly commercial heifers. We are doing a mob of stud cows simultaneously.
We use a 10 day program, heat detecting morning and night but only yarding once a day; hence the heat patches and highly visible paint numbers. It’s a simple, low fuss, minimal drug use program that we can do ourselves and have used for the past 13 years with very good success rates.

Sire profile:

JATEEBEE ROMEO (PP)

When phenotype and figures come together, the results are hard to beat. Romeo is a home bred sire that sits in the top 10% for most performance EBVs (from a herd with 10 years of submitting actual measurement data + genomics) and is tremendously correct in his phenotype, with the presence of a true sire. Romeo consistently breeds this on.

Romeo’s sons that have sold at auction over the past 5 years have averaged $17,083.

What is most rewarding for us is to see these sons breeding on again in other herds with his first grandsons going to auction at sales this year and rewarding their owners for their quality.

Romeo’s daughters retained in our herd are proper matrons - fertile and correct, with tidy udders.
