There has never been a stand-alone Royal Commission into the management — and slow death — of the Coorong.
The Murray–Darling Basin Plan has failed, and the Coorong, at the very end of the system, is paying the price. Decades of political handouts, buck-passing and bad decisions have pushed this internationally recognised wetland to the brink.
Now taxpayers are expected to keep funding endless “fixes” — with no accountability and no consequences.
Reviews and reports won’t save the Coorong.
Truth, transparency and accountability will.
It’s time for a Royal Commission into the Coorong and indeed into the Murray Darling Basin Plan— to expose what went wrong, who is responsible, and how we stop repeating the same failures.
