As we celebrate World 🐢Turtle 🐢 Day today, the results from the 2025/26 season have been finalised.
This season, October 25 to March 26, we have recorded
309 Turtle tracks on the beach with 234 successful nesting attempts.
(These results are from the regularly monitored beaches in our region, not including more isolated areas)
We had 232 Flatback turtle nests and 2 Green turtle nests, with
9500 turtle hatchlings successfully emerging from their eggs and making their way to the water.
Thank you to all the beachgoers who made the beach safe for our flippered friends and to all our volunteers and regular walkers for your support!
We are enjoying some sleep ins during the off season, October will be here again before we know it.
* Sea turtles, nests and turtle hatchlings are protected under the Qld Nature Conservation Act.
Beach monitoring activity is undertaken by Mackay District Turtle Watch members and volunteers. who are trained and authorised to undertake these activities.
