✨ This week at My Coeliac Eats ✨

Now that I am back home, I can start doing my weekly posts again. This one is a bit longer because it starts from my first day back in Melbourne! ✈️

📸 1-3: Wednesday 29th - Treated the kids to brunch at NOGLÜ 3040 for picking us up from the airport. Coeliac nephew was so happy to be able to eat anything he wanted! I had espresso hotcakes and he split the espresso and crème brûlée ones with his brother so he could try each one! 😂🥞

📸 4: Thursday 30th - Straight back into footy with G-Free Donuts Melbourne purchased on the way in AND again on the way out! 😂🍩

📸 5-6: Friday 31st - Chicken schnitzels on markdown turned into wraps for dinner. 🐔

📸 7-8: Saturday 1st - Catch-up with the girls at the cafe with the best eggs benny, Frankie’s Coffee and Eats in Carrum Downs. 🍳

📸 9-10: Saturday 1st - A stop by Brian's Gourmet Meats in Lyndhurst for some much needed essentials. 🥩

📸 11-12: Saturday 1st - Belinda cooked us up marinated chicken with spices we brought home from our fave, Bass Pro Shops ( ), coupled with baked potatoes. 🥔

📸 13: Saturday 1st - I saw an insta post about a Sinner Butter and GELATO UNOU collab and ensured we did a one hour round trip to pick up some for dessert! 🍨

📸 14: Thursday 6th - Back at work and we awesomely had a work lunch at Beletti Restaurant where I had a chicken risotto. 🍚

📸 15-16: Saturday 8th - Back to our usual programming of brunch adventures around Melb with a visit to SPACE CAFE. ☕️

📸 17: Saturday 8th - I became addicted to BLT’s in the US so made one for an 11pm snack with a fried egg on top! 🥪

Did you know that there is a Gluten Free Hotel in Louisiana? 🏨

Located in Monroe, Louisiana, The Hotel Monroe, is the first hotel in the US to be 100% gluten free. This includes the restaurant, bar, room service, catering, and even the snack provisions!

They have been certified by the Gluten Free Food Program and endorsed by the National Celiac Association.

While we were unable to stay there this visit, we did visit their main restaurant, heirloommonroe, for dinner. We shared the Caper Fries and Heirloom Chicken Caesar.

We also got some Beignets to take with us, which are delicious pastries dusted in confectioner’s sugar - a world renowned Louisianan delight!

This is not an ad or sponsored post! I am just an international visitor who is very impressed at the lengths some businesses will go to for our safety! How lucky are we?

So, if you are visiting the US or travelling through Louisiana as a coeliac/celiac or require a gluten free diet, be sure to put a stop or stay at The Hotel Monroe on your list!

Gluten free Nutella tiramisu at Eataly Dallas 😍

Last time I went to Eataly was in New York pre-coeliac where we ate all the Nutella stuff. Funnily enough, my memories showed that was exactly 11 years ago to the day! How freaky 😂

One of my favourite things to do when visiting another country is to stalk their supermarkets and stores for foods I’ve never tried before and different flavoured chips! 🛒

While I have been to the US seven times previously, this is the first time since my diagnosis, so I have been reading labels like crazy and seeing what gluten free items I can find! 🔍

These are some of the random items I have come across in Buc-ee's and Walmart. How about those fridge and freezer meals from Feel Good Foods® and 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 & 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 🥯🌱? 🤤

✈️ Gluten Free Meal on Qantas ✈️

This is my first international trip since being diagnosed with coeliac disease, and I had been so stressed about flying in the lead up. Not due to the flight itself, but because I had read so many horror stories about airlines forgetting safe meals for other travellers! 🛫

After all that worrying, I flew from Melbourne to LAX on Qantas and was thankfully catered for on my flight over! 🙏

In the lead up, I double and triple checked with Qantas online and over the phone. I asked at check-in and as soon as I boarded, and they confirmed each time that they had it noted down and the food was on board.

What a relief it was to receive that first special meal knowing I could eat! 😅

Just in case, I brought lots of snacks in my carry-on and got one last coffee and a blueberry and almond cake from my favourite Melbourne institution, AXIL COFFEE ROASTERS.

Lunch was served about an hour into the flight. It was chicken in a tomato sauce with beans, a Well and Good bread roll, and an orange and apple for dessert.

During the flight, I was given a hot meat pie from Madhouse Bakehouse which was handed to me while they were re-enacting night time. I was so sleepy so I had no idea what was going on. I just managed to read the label in the dark and take some terrible photos. 😂

For breakfast around 2-3 hours before landing in Los Angeles, I was given my breakfast of a frittata, baked beans and tomatoes, and another roll. Plus a fruit salad and apple.

The meat pie was really good (which is funny because I hate meat pies 😛). Everything else was just your average plane food.

But, I cannot complain because I was fed and did not need to eat any of the snacks I brought on! Fingers crossed the same happens on the way home! 🛬

Gluten free pancakes from Snooze in Phoenix, Arizona. 🥞

The majority of the menu can be made gluten free. They have 70 locations across the US. I tried the cinnamon and strawberry shortcake pancakes and they were both absolutely delicious! 🤤

Be sure to pop them on your must-visit list if you have American holiday plans! 🇺🇸

✨ This week at My Coeliac Eats ✨

A very quiet week by my standards! 🤫

📸 1-2: Tuesday - We had a work forum in the city which had been moved to a new location not near Kudo 🥺 so I made sure I was prepared with snacks. There was a table of GF options which weren’t great 😬 so the carrot cake muffin was the best choice. 🥕

📸 3: Wednesday - Pre-trivia Mexican at Zambrero Mornington & Main Street. 🌮

📸 4: Wednesday - Post-trivia yogie with Nutella at YOMG in Mornington. 🍨

📸 5: Friday - Late night coffee and dessert date with Sash at Doppio Beaconsfield. 🍰
