Sally & Oli - you guys are why I love this job ❤️ you welcomed me in, shared your hopes and fears, and put in the work to get prepared. And then? Completely surrendered to the labyrinth of birth. Oh look at that vernix-y goodness!! 😍 Nature’s moisturiser 💧

Don’t know what vernix is?
It’s the creamy/waxy coating you may see on a newborn’s skin. We generally see more vernix the earlier a baby is born. Some newborns have heaps (hello baby Cleo, seen above. PS this is a pretty extreme amount, the little clever clogs) and some have none at all by the time they’re born. All variations are normal!

What we know is that it’s great at protecting the skin barrier, it SUPER moisturising, provides antimicrobial protection and supports babe’s adaptation to the outside world. So if you’re happy to leave it on and let it melt into the skin naturally, your little human will thank you for it :)
