Well... it wouldn't be a trial without a tribulation...

Last week, an unexpected power outage meant every meal I'd prepared for the FedWell trial had to be discarded.

It's a tough setback and tears were shed, but if I wouldn't confidently serve it to my own family, I won't serve it to yours.

So, back to the kitchen I go. A little wiser, fuelled by a lot more coffee and still believing that good things are worth doing properly.

As we’re navigating the tween/teen era, here’s something valuable I’m learning about family dinner and connection;

When they seem furthest away, keep setting a place for them.

After a day of push back, serve their favourite meal and watch them soften.

Dinner can lay a pathway for repair and reconnection. A shared moment of comfort, sometimes without words, always with love.

When I was deep in postpartum 🐣, (the part where everything hurts, the nights feel endless and the world feels upside down), my mum stocked my freezer with muffins and soup 🥣. These things provided me with so much comfort at a time I hadn’t yet found my footing.

These are my version of those muffins. Full of oats for lactation 🍼, healthy fats like h**p, chia seeds & almond meal, fibre from carrot 🥕 & fresh apple 🍏 & free from seed oils/refined sugars.

I hope this will provide the same feeling of comfort for another new mumma.

This has taken me a long time to make peace with.

I believe as humans, we are meant to live as a village. Where each person thrives in what they do best. Where an aunt seamlessly steps in when a mother is sick. When the financial pressures aren’t solely on an individual’s shoulders. There is a natural give and take, a rhythm to live by, where we can afford to properly rest without feeling like our world will fall apart.

Instead, we are operating in isolation, expected to do it all. To be the cook, the worker, the child rearer, the housekeeper, the maintenance person, the carer, the driver and more. And somehow maintain friendships and relationships and health and well-being.

I hope FedWell can be a part of your village. To step in quietly whenever you need a moment to catch your breath. Because you are not a failure. You are human.

Koala Eco removes residual pesticides, oils, waxes and agricultural chemicals from fruit and vegetables. It is also biodegradable and plant based.

Today was all about perfecting these fluffy chocolate bites. A balance of indulgence and nutrition with ingredients such as zucchini, h**p seeds and flax meal.
