Glacier 51 Toothfish is a truly unique fish caught by Perth based Austral Fisheries, at the bottom of the Great Southern Ocean.

EVERY FISH HAS A STORY

Nothing can rival the story of Glacier 51 Toothfish. Located in the Australian sub-Antarctic territory around Heard Island, a staggering 4,109 km from mainland Australia , Fiftyone Glacier inches into the surrounding icy waters of the storm tossed southern ocean. It is this extraordinary environment that is home to the highly prized Patagonian Toothfish (Dissostichus eleg

inoides) . The story includes tough crews in small boats in mighty seas. It involves overcoming pirates, high seas chases and international media coverage. It is also a story that proves the power of collective action and shows what is possible when conservation, responsible industry , science and Government work together for a common goal. The success of this collective action is now evidenced by the Marine Stewardship Council certifying the fishery as sustainable and the Monterey Bay Aquarium listing this Australian fish as ‘best choice’. This is a story of a truly remarkable fish!

Today we celebrate the launch of Austral Odyssey in Port Louis, Mauritius - the newest addition to our Southern Fleet.

Purpose-built from the keel up, Austral Odyssey has been designed to enhance quality, traceability and environmental performance in the Southern Ocean. With advanced fishing systems, moon pool line recovery, state-of-the-art catch handling and a hybrid propulsion system with integrated battery capacity, she represents a significant investment in innovation and responsible fishing.

Constructed by Båtbygg AS and designed by Marin Teknikk, Austral Odyssey reflects the collaboration, craftsmanship and commitment of teams across Australia, Norway and beyond.

More than a vessel, she is the physical expression of Glacier 51’s premium promise - exceptional quality, care for our crew, and confidence in the sustainable management of the Southern Ocean fisheries.
