🍻 THAT’S A WRAP ON BRISBANE — TIME TO HIT THE ROAD AGAIN! 🍻

G’day legends!

Well, that’s a wrap on our Brisbane visit! 🍻

We didn’t quite manage to squeeze in as many breweries as I’d hoped, but we certainly made up for it with plenty of family and friend catch ups, a few good b**rs and loads of laughs!

But the wheels are turning again, and the Dark B**r Tour of Australia is back on the road!

🍺 FIRST STOP — GRAFTON BREWING CO.

We’re calling in to sample their Bostock Stout and Czech Dark L***r. Two dark b**rs I’m pretty keen to get stuck into, so stay tuned for our thoughts!

🏉 NEXT STOP — SAFETY BEACH!

We’re heading down to catch up with our good mates Kel and Collette for a bit of Rugby League World Cup footy!

Now, Kel being a Kiwi, he’s made it VERY clear that if Australia wins, Maz and I will be sleeping outside in the swag! 🇦🇺🇳🇿😂

So, with that in mind, I reckon tonight might just be our first night in the swag! 🤣

🍻 THEN IT’S ON TO KEMPSEY!

From there we’re heading to the old man’s place in Kempsey for another family catch up before dropping into Bucket Brewery tomorrow afternoon to see what Sam’s been brewing up!

I’ve already spotted a few interesting releases, so I’m looking forward to seeing what’s pouring! 🍺

After that, the big journey west begins again as we make our way back across this awesome country towards Port Hedland!

There’s plenty of road ahead, a few brewery stops to discover and no doubt a story or two along the way.

🍻 AND AS ALWAYS…

If you see the D Max and boat rolling through your town, or spot us propping up the bar at a local brewery, don’t be a stranger!

Come say g’day, grab a b**r and have a yarn! That’s what this adventure is all about, good b**r, great people and exploring this bloody awesome country of ours! 🇦🇺

Cheers legends! 🍻

🍺 PARMY ARMY – GOOD FOOD, GREAT BLOKES & EVEN BETTER BANTER! 🍺

G’day legends!

Last night I finally managed to make it along to another Parmy Army gathering, something I haven’t been able to do nearly enough of since starting FIFO work and spending so much time travelling around this great country.

But last night the stars aligned! ⭐

And what a cracking turnout, with 25 blokes getting together for a feed, a laugh and a good old fashioned yarn.

For those who haven’t heard of it, Parmy Army is a fantastic initiative orchestrated by Nick, the Chief Parminator! 🍗👑

The idea is pretty simple. Get a bunch of blokes together once a month, forget about work titles and the everyday pressures of life, and just enjoy some good company.

No expectations, no judgement, no pressure. Just blokes being blokes, sharing a laugh, having a yarn and enjoying a decent feed.

And speaking of the feed… I reckon this is one one of the biggest chicken parmys I’ve seen in Brisbane! 😂🍗

But there’s something much bigger than a chicken parmy behind this initiative.

In a world where everyone’s busy with work, family and life in general, it’s easy to lose touch with mates and forget how important it is to simply catch up.

Sometimes all it takes is a meal, a laugh and a conversation to make someone’s week a little better.

A massive shout out to Nick for putting this together and keeping it going. You’re doing a bloody great thing, mate! 👏

It was fantastic to get back amongst it, catch up with some familiar faces and meet a few new ones.

If you’re a bloke looking for a bit of mateship, some good banter and a bloody enormous parmy, check out the Parmy Army.

Come for the feed. Stay for the banter. Leave feeling a little lighter.

And one final question…

Is it a PARMY or a PARMA? 😂👇

🍻 GOOD B**R, GOOD COMPANY & A GOOD OLD YARN! 🍻

G’day legends! 🍺

Yesterday I had the pleasure of catching up with fellow b**r reviewer and passionate independent craft b**r advocate Chrisandbudda at Hop City Bar in Brisbane.

There’s nothing better than sitting down with someone who shares a passion for independent breweries, enjoying a few quality b**rs and having a good old yarn about all things craft b**r! 🍻

With a cracking selection of b**rs from Happy Valley Brewing Co. on tap, we certainly weren’t short of options.

We sampled a few different brews, but for me, the standout was undoubtedly the Brisbane Black Nitro Stout (4.2% ABV). 🍺

A beautifully presented dark b**r with that lovely creamy head. Definitely my pick of the afternoon and one I’d happily go back for.

It was fantastic to catch up, swap a few stories and share our enthusiasm for supporting the independent craft brewing industry.

Of course, I couldn’t leave empty handed! Managed to grab a few interesting takeaway b**rs, so keep an eye out for some upcoming reviews as we continue the Dark B**r Tour of Australia! 🍻

A big cheers to Chrisandbudda for the catch up, and to Hop City Bar and Happy Valley Brewing Co. for keeping the good b**rs flowing.

Until the next dark b**r, cheers legends! 🍻🇦🇺

🍻 21 YEARS, A FEW DARK & STORMYS AND FINALLY A PORTER! 🍻

G’day legends!

Well, that’s Dakota’s 21st done and dusted! What a fantastic night celebrating with family and friends! 🥳🎂

Hard to believe my little girl is now 21! So proud of the young woman she’s become, and it was pretty special getting everyone together for this milestone.

The celebrations kicked off at Mr Badgers in Woolloongabba. Cracking venue for a party, but not a dark b**r in sight! 😱🍺

So in the spirit of adapting to our surroundings, the trusty Dark & Stormy became the liquid lubricant for the evening. A few rums, plenty of laughs, questionable dance moves and a bloody good night.

But you know me! a night out isn’t complete without tracking down a dark b**r. 🍻

We eventually landed at Easy Times Brewing Co, where I spotted Goodfather Porter from Southern Highlands Brewing Co. on tap.

At 5.5% ABV, a very good example of a porter. Rich, smooth, with lovely roasted malt character. Exactly what I’d been looking for. 🍫☕

The night didn’t finish there!

We ended up at The Pineapple Hotel, joining the Kangaroo Point Rovers FC crew and a bunch of Irish lads for more laughs and good old fashioned carry on. 🇮🇪🍻

What started as a 21st turned into one of those nights where you go with the flow, meet great people and make memories.

Happy 21st, Dakota! ❤️ Thanks for another excuse to get dressed up, let our hair down and celebrate life.

Now it’s time to pack away the fancy clothes, get back into the board shorts, Tee shirts and Crocs and hit the road again.

The weather’s looking a little ominous, so we’ll see what Mother Nature throws our way. All part of the adventure.

And yes… even at a 21st, the Dark B**r Tour of Australia managed to sneak in a porter. 😂🍺

Cheers legends 🍻

🍻🚐 G’DAY LEGENDS – DARK B**R TOUR TRAVEL UPDATE! 🇦🇺

It’s been a busy few days on the Sunshine Coast catching up with family and friends, and tonight we’re getting ready to celebrate one of our daughters turning 21! 🎉🥳

And what better way to prepare than our once-a-year haircuts, beard trims and a bit of shaping! 😂💈 Might even look respectable for a change!

But it hasn’t been all relaxing…

We’ve decided to tow the boat west, so there’s been plenty happening behind the scenes getting everything ready.

What started as a simple wheel bearing replacement somehow turned into a full suspension upgrade, new bearings and new brakes! 🔧💸 You know how these little jobs go!

But she’s now ready to hit the road!

We’ve also installed Jono’s rooftop tent and given the D-Max a good once over, ready for the kilometres ahead. 🚙🛥️

Next stop, we’re leaving Brisbane and heading south to Kempsey to catch up with the old fella, before turning west towards Port Augusta and eventually back to the Pilbara.

And of course, there’ll be a few brewery stops along the way! 🍻

We’re hoping to call into Grafton Brewing Co, and we’ll definitely be catching up with the crew at Bucket Brewery before heading inland.

As always, we’ll be hunting down cracking dark b**rs, discovering new breweries and stopping at those good old-fashioned country pubs that make travelling Australia so special.

🍻 NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We’re chasing recommendations between Kempsey and Port Augusta!

🍺 Hidden breweries pouring great dark b**rs
🍻 Country pubs full of character
🏞️ Natural wonders and must see stops

👇 Drop your recommendations in the comments! We love finding those hidden gems that aren’t always on the tourist maps.

And if you spot Maz, Jono and me along the way, come up, say g’day and have a yarn!

Great b**rs, great places and great people. That’s what the Dark B**r Tour is all about! 🍻🇦🇺

🍺 BREWERY REVISIT - STONY CREEK BREWING 🍺
📍 Ipswich, QLD

Today we dropped back in to revisit one of my favourite breweries - Stony Creek Brewing in Ipswich.

I’d seen that Derek had just kegged a fresh batch of Mulgowie Mud Oatmeal Stout, so naturally, I had to stop in and check it out.

And as expected… he’s nailed it AGAIN! 🍻

🍺 MULGOWIE MUD OATMEAL STOUT

👀 Appearance:
Deep, dark and inviting with a creamy head, exactly what i want to see sitting in front of me.

👃 Aroma:
Gentle roasted malt with those darker coffee and chocolate notes starting to come through.

🍫 Palate:
Opens with a gentle malty sweetness before dark chocolate/ cocoa flavour takes over, followed by a lingering coffee character and just enough bitterness to bring everything into balance.

💧 Mouthfeel:
Smooth and easy drinking, with the oats giving it that lovely rounded character.

🔥 Finish:
Lingering coffee with a mild bitterness that keeps you coming back for another sip.

🍺 Would we order it again?
Absolutely - and I already have! 😂

Unfortunately, we were on a pretty tight timeline today, so it was one Mulgowie Mud and back on the road.

But Stony Creek is such a great little venue for anyone wanting to settle in for a few b**rs and work their way through the taps.

It was also great to see everything getting ready for Oktoberfest celebrations. Would have loved to have been around to sample what Derek is brewing up for that one! 🍺🇩🇪

Always good dropping back into a brewery you’ve enjoyed before and finding them still knocking out great b**r.

Until next time, Stony Creek. Cheers!🍻

🍺 HEADS OF NOOSA BLACK JAPANESE L***R 🍺

🏭 Brewery: Heads of Noosa Brewing Co.
🍺 Style: Black Japanese L***r
📊 ABV: 4.5%

👀 Appearance:
Deep mahogany with a ruby glow showing through at the base and a creamy light tan head.

👃 Aroma:
Roasted malt leads the way, with noticeable chocolate character.

🍫 Palate:
A significant hit of roasted barley and chocolate up front, developing into a well balanced bitterness as you work through each mouthful.

💧 Mouthfeel:
Smooth and surprisingly full, with a thicker mouthfeel than many of the dark la**rs we’ve tried.

🔥 Finish:
Dry and crisp, with the roasted malt and balanced bitterness lingering just enough to keep you coming back for another sip.

🍺 Would we order it again?
It has the clean, crisp drinkability you expect from a Japanese style l***r, but with enough roasted malt, chocolate and body to keep a dark b**r drinker happy.

Dark b**r drinkers, do you prefer your dark la**rs light and crisp, or with a bit more roast and body like this one? 🍻 **rTourOfAustralia ***r ***r ***r ***r **r **rLovers **rAustralia **r **r **rLife **rReview **rTasting **r **r **r **r **rTour

🍺 MODUS JAPANESE DRY BLACK L***R 🍺

🏭 Brewery: Modus Brewing
📍 Tasting location: Port Hedland, WA
🍺 Style: Japanese Dry Black L***r
📊 ABV: 4.5%

👀 Appearance:
Deep mahogany brown with a ruby glow at the base of the glass and a generous, creamy tan head.

👃 Aroma:
Gentle malt aroma.

🍫 Palate:
Subtle roasted malt with hints of sweet caramel and restrained bitterness.

💧 Mouthfeel:
Light bodied and smooth, making for an easy drinking dark l***r.

🔥 Finish:
Clean and dry.

🍺 Would we order it again?
Definitely. A light, easy drinking dark b**r with subtle malt character, one I am settling in with for a session. 🍻

What’s your go to dark b**r when you’re after something light and easy drinking?

🍻🚐 DARK B**R TOUR OF AUSTRALIA – BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN! 🇦🇺

After a few weeks back at work on the tug, Maz and I are packing our bags and getting ready to hit the road again, exploring more of this awesome country!

First stop, we’re flying home to Brisbane to catch up with family and friends, celebrate one of our daughters turning 21, and spend some much needed time with the crew back home.

Then we’re lucky enough to have one of our sons joining us for an epic road trip back across the country to Western Australia! 🚐🍺

Our travels will take us through the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and down to Kempsey to catch up with the old boy, before pointing ourselves southwest and making our way across this great country.

And of course, it wouldn’t be the Dark B**r Tour without a few brewery stops along the way.

We’ll be revisiting some of my favourites, including:
🍺 Sunshine Brewery
🍺 Hip Hop Brewing
🍺 Stony Creek Brewing
🍺 Bucket Brewery

But we’re just as keen to discover some new breweries, hunt down a few cracking dark b**rs and pull up a stool at some good old fashioned country pubs along the way.

There’s something pretty special about finding a little country pub in the middle of nowhere, having a yarn with the locals and discovering a b**r you weren’t expecting.

🍻 NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP

We’re chasing recommendations. Whether it’s a hidden little brewery, an old country pub with plenty of character or somewhere pouring an absolutely cracking stout, porter or dark ale, we want to hear about it.

👇 Drop your must visit breweries and pubs in the comments. Where should we stop, and more importantly, what should we be drinking when we get there?

And if you happen to see Maz and me on our travels, don’t be shy. Come up, say g’day and have a yarn. We love meeting the people who follow our adventures.

Here’s to more kilometres, new adventures, great b**rs and the people we meet along the way!

Cheers from the Dark B**r Tour of Australia! 🍻🇦🇺
