The Black Devil!

Gotcha!! Actually Nero d’Avola does not mean black devil sadly as it’s such a great party name (as this wine is the ultimate party drink!). Devil is Diavolo in Italian whereas d’Avola means from Avola. Which is boring for anyone outside of Avola so let’s just run with it and call this vino the Black Devil. 😈🍷🔥

Waiting patiently for all my wine babies to slowly express themselves through these winter months. It’s a beautiful time as a winemaker - to contemplate, to plan, to dream, to rest… (I wish!!). But tasting through these wines makes me feel so close to the slow art of making things. Everything. For me, it’s making wine. For all my market friends, it’s making Turkish delight, cheese, salumi, sourdough breads, Korean and Thai sauces (that I’m addicted to) and on the list goes. It’s about remembering just how delicious food and wines can be when made with love and muscles and how lucky we are that there are makers out there who in spite of all the challenges keep on going so that we can all enjoy these tastes, flavours and textures that you just can’t get with commercially made products. So I wish you all a beautiful day or evening or whatever it is for you, and I hope that you are enjoying something handmade, something really special, by a person in their small winery or factory or home kitchen, a place full of dreams, ambitions, real life and joy 🥰

Say hello to Rob the Octopus! A strange name you might think but named after the wonderful man called Rob who just gave this cutest little octopus to me at the Whitehorse Farmers Market. A friend of his made the toy by hand just for me to add to my ever growing collection of octopus toys, jewellery and beanies 😂😂

Rob and I will be here in Nunawading until 1pm and so you can come down say hi in person!! 🐙❤️

I was reading an article this morning published by the ABC commenting on a Wine Australia report saying that people are drinking less because of cost of living amongst other reasons. The question the ABC posed to the readers was “What are you giving up (if anything)?”

The answers were hilarious and confirms what I see every time I share my wines with people. And that is wine drinkers love drinking wine - with one person saying they’d give up s*x before giving up wine! 😂

Rather than analysing this data as wine is in decline, I believe that in this economic climate as a producer it’s more about being real and authentic, getting out there, talking directly to the people who drink my wines, listening to what they have to say and sharing stories and laughs.

Wine is such a beautiful drink and as a wine consumer myself, my passion is to drink good wines made by small producers who pour their heart and soul into turning grapes into wine with just their hands. Nothing else. And then enjoy those moments that the wine helps to create with beautiful people. That’s it. It’s all quite simple really. ❤️
