This little doeling doesn't have a name yet. She's about 4 weeks old and though dam raised in the paddock she seems quite comfortable exploring the house without her mum or two sisters there. She's 86% pygmy.

It makes me very happy to see how loved Milkshake & Mousse are at their new home at Fig Tree Farm. I know they’ve joined a happy safe forever home.

Meet Buttercup and her mum Clover. I’ll get a better photo of Buttercup later. Clover is about 4 years old and is well under knee high. They’re a bit unusual. Our other kids are black, grey or caramel and many of our goats have the traditional black face masks, and white patch on their poll.

Pygmy goats originated in Africa but Australian Pygmy goats are all derived from Pygmy genetics taken to and further developed in the USA. White goats like Buttercup wouldn’t be acceptable there.

In Australia most of our Pygmy goats have been crossed with Australian minis - it’s helped us avoid having too much inbreeding. Hence we sometimes get a more diverse colour range and while they’re not traditional Pygmy colours, we know that Buttercup and her mum Clover are mostly Pygmy genetics and it’s the colour part that’s come from the non-Pygmy side.

Even though Buttercup and Clover aren’t traditional colours they’ll be staying in the herd as they have plenty of other good attributes and Clover frequently wins in the show ring over more traditionally coloured goats. It’s extremely difficult and time consuming to change poor conformation but colour can change in one generation so to have goats who kid easily, have a cobby build, good conformation and sweet temperaments will always be my top priority. Colour is a much simpler project.

Two of our sweet wethers who are now old enough to leave for their forever homes. They've had two vaccinations, been disbudded and wethered. They just need their ear tags in and a few more cuddles before they can go. Very few of our kids are bottle fed, but both mothers were dropping weight (they're from different dams who each had twins) despite regular additional feeds and these two happily took to having supplementary bottles from just over 3 weeks old.

Kidding season has started! We've had 5 does kid so far this year and all of the 12 kids have been very impressive. That's 3 sets of twins and two sets of triplets.

Here's a couple of the doelings I will be keeping so far - they're not the greatest photos but anyone who's had goat kids knows how difficult it is to find them in the right pose for a photo.

We've used 4 different bucks this year - Narion Nico (by Little Roulette's Stetson), Narion Giovanni (by Gypsyville Grindr), Narion Thomas (by Trinity Toby) and Buccanwood Tonka (by Pine Creek Tanzanite). This has provided some beautiful genetics to work with and makes waiting for kids to arrive even more fun.

We have 8 more does to kid over the next fortnight.

Not everyone wants to see goats during kidding, but this is for those who are interested. Cleo’s twins were born on Friday 17th July 2026.

Two of our lovely little wethers who were born a couple of months ago. They’ll go to their new home soon -just one more vaccine and ear tags to be put in and then they’ll be ready for pick up day.
