Take some horse poo.
Layer with hay.
Sprinkle with water as you go.
Throw in pumpkin seedlings.
And watch them go.

Don't freak out when you see a bee.
Be curious.
Be gentle.
Move slowly.

Ups and downs.
Hobby farming is like that.
Unfortunately I opened my hive to see that very little progress had been made since catching my swarm.
Adrian at Beekeeping Naturally says this could be because the queen is old or lack of pollen over the spring. Regardless I now have to feed my bees and hope they survive. Winter is a long period for them to get through and feeding sugar syrup is not ideal.
We also joined our ram on Saturday with our ewes. In the process of dividing the young lambs from the adult ewes, one of our older ewes appears to have found a poisonous plant in the old abandoned chook yard, and died instantaneously after eating it. It was a shock to find her within 10 minutes, gone.
That's life, but it hard not to blame yourself. Now I know to keep a lookout for this plant!
I managed to plant up 125 lomandra seedlings, preserve another 11 bottles of apples and 3 pots of apple cider vinegar, so thats a nice way to finish the weekend!

This is a big beetroot. But check out the carrot! Roast dinner veges sorted.

Great article on the benefits of bees in your permaculture garden, as well as a free live webinar opportunity with Adrian, who mentors us on our beginning hive! Check it out.

Bees are the missing element in many permaculture systems β€” the living connection that makes everything else perform better.

Epic weekend in the kitchen.

Impressed with the size of my apples this year, after learning about thinning. Who would have thought removing half of the fruit off the tree would still result in a bounty of bigger apples?

Still more🍏 to do.
