What a whirlwind of a weekend!

We competed at the Vegas Showdown at The Beechmont Hotel on the weekend, and this event was also the venue for the year end Australasian Barbecue Alliance 2026 season awards and presentations.

What a great weekend catching with all of our BBQ family for Australia and New Zealand. Was great seeing old faces, and meeting new folks in what has fast become one of the best venues to host a BBQ competition and after party !

Our results in the competition were a bloody disaster 🤣. Had a bad day and can't blame the judges this weekend.

But so many highlights

Big GC’s BBQ for Grand Champion, and also punching his ticket into the Barbecue World Cup in Vegas.
Dusty Que for Reserve Grand Champion

Big smoke bbq for coming 3rd and also punching their ticket to Vegas.

Always great seeing my mates do well.

It was then onto the ABA Awards and the team from the ABA did exceptional job on the awards, massive thanks to Demelsa Lollback and all of her team of legends for this event.

Dusty Que finally wrapped their hands on the 1st place team of the year which was great to see after being arguably one of the most consistently good teams for years now.

My mate Daniel Barrett and his team Big Smoke BBQ was inducted into the Hall of Fame which was a bloody great achievement for a bloke that has been one of the best I've seen.

Our little team at Triple B Barbecue snagged Team of the Year (shared with Dusty Que), this was the popular vote category. Im not sure who voted, but very much appreciate anyone who did.

We also finished 6th overall on the 2026 points standings, as well as 3rd place in the country for Ribs, Pork and Lamb.

I know I thank them on every post, but I really do mean it when I say that it would be near on impossible to do what we do consistently with the folks who support us.

Honoured to named as a finalist in the Australasian Barbecue Alliance Team of the Year, as voted by our peers.

The criteria for this award is as follows:

🔥 Demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship and conduct toward fellow competitors, judges, and event organisers

To be named amongst the other finalists is an absolute privilege.

Spent the arvo trimming chicken and pork for next weeks Vegas Showdown at The Beechmont Hotel.

The last two Australian spots are up for grabs for the $1M Barbecue World Cup in Vegas next year.

Nice local contest on the Gold Coast this past weekend.

The Beechmont Hotel was a great venue for a cookoff and Grant Coleman did a bloody great job of organising.

We had a very mid cook and probs got the results we deserved.

Chicken - 10th
Ribs - 3rd
Pork - 9th
Brisket- 17th 🤦‍♂️

10th Overall.

Congrats to Dusty Que on their GC and Jacks Creek BBQ for their RGC.

Headed out to the Royal Hotel Leyburn for the Royal Rumble BBQ Cookoff and thought I had a solid cook. But judges mostly disagreed...

Chicken 🐔 - 6th
Pork Ribs - 5th
Pork 🐖 - 5th
Brisket 🐄 - 2nd

Overall.. 4th Place

Congrats to Smooth & SmOakey Salad Dodgers for the GC and Bar-Beard-Que for RGC

Finally got time before my flight back to Australia to do a quick wrap up of the weekend.

Day 1 - BBQ Capital Showdown, Lockhart TX

Chicken - 6th
Ribs - 15th
Pork - 12
Brisket - 6th

Good enough for a Reserve Grand Champion. Congrats to Jared Mccrory from Bearfoot Cookers on the Grand Championship!

Day 2 - Bexar County Junior Livestock, San Antonio TX

Another pretty good day on the tools.

9th Chicken
1st Ribs
5th Brisket

Managed a 4th place overall, scoring was tight on this one, with only 1.72 points between 1st and 4th. Congrats to Smoking and Toasting for the RGC and First Class BBQ for their Grand Championship.

Sincerely want to thank everyone who helped me over this past weekend.

Sure Shot BBQ - massive thanks for the loan of the equipment. Absolute legends.
Stacy Breneman & Robert A. Smith for opening up your space for me and letting me use your trailer and amenities. Was just a massive help.

If I've missed anyone, not intentional, sleep deprived and energy depleted and currently waiting for a flight home

We drove through 19 states of the USA these past couple of weeks, met some new friends and caught up with old ones.

Did our best to hold our own against some bloody awesome cooks.

Made the long, long journey to Hancock, New Hampshire for the Seven Maples BBQ Showdown, which forms part of the New England Triple Crown series sanctioned by CBA.

I was originally planned to head to New Mexico, however with that event cancellation the opportunity arose to head to New Hampshire, and im really glad I did. Absolutely beautiful part of this country.

Matt Pereira did an absolutely awesome job of putting on this event, he went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed and the event was awesome.

The weekend started with cooks choice, I handed in a Surf and Turf entry and managed to snag a 2nd place.

On to the BBQ cookoff and the results were

Chicken - 12th
Ribs - 7th
Pork - 4th
Brisket - 10th

Which put me 5th Overall

I also managed to join the 777 Club along the way which is was pretty cool. I had to google what this was, but essentially I scored over 777 points out of a possible 800 points on offer.

Congrats to my good mate and legend LC BBQ for the GC and 15:13 BBQ for the RGC.

Was great venturing into the New England region, time to head back to Texas for another couple of cookoffs next weekend in Lockhart and San Antonio.

Travelled on up to sunny far north Qld for the Riverway Meats BBQ Battle. Always a great weekend up here catching up with friends and family.

The promoters Paul Miller and the rest of the crew do a great job looking after cooks and putting on a great community event.

Thanks to my mate Geoffrey Baker for giving me a hand all weekend, loading the trailer, and just being a genuine legend who was happy to help out.

Headed down to Armidale NSW for the BBQ Battalion Armidale ABA and SCA cookoff.

Stopped at Deepwater pub on the way down with my mate Wookie from Grillas in the Mist, had a few beers and a few Fried and steamed Sth Melbourne dimmies were had.

For a respectable 4th Overall in a small, but strong field.

Dusty Que were too strong and nailed GC with Grillas in the Mist and Jacks Creek BBQ tieing for RGC.

On to sunny Townsville next weekend for the Riverway Meats BBQ Battle 😎
