Southern In Law www.southerninlaw.com
A lifestyle blog about food, life, love, craft & everything in between.

Kristy started Southern In-Law as a lifestyle blog and a way to share her story with a wider audience. Previously blogging at ksayerphotography, Kristy started Southern In-Law after becoming engaged to Jesse – allowing readers to follow her on her journey of becoming a “Southern In-Law”. Passionate about Healthy Living and a newly diagnosed Coeliac, Kristy wanted to share her Healthy and Allergy F

riendly recipes so that everyone else could enjoy them too. She has dreams of one day creating her own book or cookbook to share her story and passion with even more people around the world. Kristy and Jesse can't believe they even have "readers", but they are so grateful for each and every one of them and want to share everything they possibly can with them - from wedding plans to life decisions to healthy eating tips, tricks and recipes and everyday "stuff". Both plan to take Southern In-Law on whatever journey life takes them on.

As a mum, the weight of the world can feel heavier at times like this. The darkness feels closer, louder… and to be honest, deeply unsettling. But even then, we’re reminded that we still have a choice.

There is light in our homes. We can keep it low and close, protecting it quietly, keeping it to ourselves - or we can let it shine outward, gently and generously, into a world that needs it more than ever.

As a mum, all I want is to raise a child who is kind, loving, considerate and compassionate. In moments like these, that feels more important than anything else.

Today a story will air that I hope will bring a smile to your face. Sure, some will question its timing (and to be honest, even I did too!) but perhaps this is exactly when stories of humanity, connection and care matter most.

As Christmas approaches, I hope we can let the light from our homes shine a little brighter. That might look like a smile, a hello, a phone call, or a simple act of kindness. It might be a homemade gift, or an invitation extended to someone who might otherwise feel alone (I highly recommend doing this - it really doesn’t take much to add one more person to your Christmas table but you’ll bring so much more joy).

When you watch Channel 9 News at 4pm or 6pm tonight, I hope this story offers a gentle reminder that even in the darkest moments, light still exists - and when we choose to share it, darkness doesn’t get the final word.

Disneyland again? No.... Disneyland *always*

Whilst Disneyland California will always be my home park, Hong Kong Disneyland was so special - and what a gift to share these memories with my parents too! Jensen finally got to take Nannie and Pa to Disney with him!

Also, can we talk about this castle?! She's a beaut, Clark 🤩

After a quick stay in the city, we checked in at 's Explorer's Lodge and very quickly fell in love 😍

The most beautiful, family friendly hotel that casually looks out onto the South China Sea and Hong Kong city lights at night. Jensen was so excited for the pool and even more excited for the Pedal Cars that were right outside our room and free for guests to use.

Holiday mode Jensen was officially activated ✅ and he was so glad to have his own queen sized bed 😆 and loved getting to explore Nemo's Recreation Reef playground.

Better still? Unlike Disney properties in the US, HKDL's Disney Hotels were actually reasonably priced and it was so worth staying on property. We were able to come and go as we pleased, popping back to the hotel for a nap or swim and them getting back on the shuttle bus (or walking the 15ish minutes) back to the park.

Going back through holiday photos because I already wish I was back there 🤭

We started day two of our Hong Kong trip climbing the city streets, trying to find our way to Hong Kong Zoological & Botannical Gardens as Google Maps changed its mind 34023040 times on the directions (and we ended up looking at the map and working out our way ourselves) - and what a treat we found.

The park is completely free and felt like a jungle-like oasis in the middle of the city. It was *so* quiet. The hustle and bustle of Hong Kong completely disappeared - despite the skyscrapers looming just outside.

We quickly realised that Hong Kong is a city that's slow to start - and as morning people, we beat the crowds and had the park all to ourselves.

Meerkats, sloths, orangutans, turtles, flamingoes - there was so much to see and even a playground for Jensen to discover (because I am convinced 3-4 year olds have an inbuilt playground radar, regardless of where they are in the world).

If you're coming to Hong Kong, you need to put this one on your list! 😍

Me: “We’re nearly finished our bushwalk!”
Jensen: “Yay! Then we can eat all the delicious mangoes”
Me: “I said mangroves…. Not mangoes”
Jensen: “Ohhhhhh…”

Though I mean, he has a point. All walks should end with mangoes 🥭

If you're wondering why toddler parents only ever have photos of their kids IN things it's because it's the only time they actually smile in photos 😆
