Great day at the UNSW Environmental Career Festival 2026 🌱

Co-founder Tom Bessell got up on the panel to chat about his path into the sector, and something we say a lot: environmental solutions need to make commercial sense too, not just be good for the planet. Less chemical and energy use, lower sludge disposal costs, easier compliance, that’s what actually gets facilities on board.

We also ran a booth all day, big thanks to Jack Gowing and Anushq Borase for holding it down with Tom.

Congrats to the real June intern of the month: Siyao Ju🔬🎓

Yes, “intern.” She finished her PhD at the University of Sydney while also running lab tests with our Biochemistry Team, because one doctorate clearly wasn’t enough to keep her occupied.

Thanks for the work, Siyao. Big things ahead, we can’t wait to see where you land. 👏

ALBO ❤️ ALBON!!?

ALBON just landed $50,000 in matched funding through the NSW Government’s MVP Ventures Program! 🎉

This funding is going straight into the next stage of our algae-bacteria wastewater treatment system, built for abattoirs, dairies and food processing sites.

Here’s the problem we’re solving: these sites are under growing pressure to cut nitrogen, phosphorus and suspended solids from their wastewater, but most existing solutions mean expensive infrastructure overhauls. We’re building something modular instead, a more practical, accessible way for regional processors to treat high strength effluent without the huge price tag.

The funding covers lab validation and scaling up our system, as we gear up for our first paid pilot at Corstorphine Dairy Farm later this year 🌱

Massive thanks to Investment NSW for backing early stage companies working on real environmental tech.

A few flicks from our team BBQ lunch back in May 🌱🍔

We brought the team together for a BBQ at the Sydney Knowledge Hub to celebrate some recent progress, including being named semi-finalists in the 2026 Australian Technologies Competition.

We’re also seeing strong commercial interest, pilot discussions and investment as we work towards our first paid pilot later this year.

Plenty more to come.

Big welcome to our 2026 Winter Placement interns!

We’re excited to have such a talented group joining ALBON across engineering, biochemistry and marketing.

The team has already kicked things off with induction, project briefings and a visit to Sydney Water’s Quakers Hill WRRF to see large-scale water treatment in action.

Looking forward to seeing the energy, curiosity and ideas they bring over the next few months.

Big news!! 🧪

We’re excited to share that ALBON was named a Merit Recipient in the Sustainability & Environmental category at the 2026 NSW iAwards, and has now been selected as a National Finalist for the 2026 Australian iAwards.

It was a great afternoon for co-founders Tom and Andrea at the NSW iAwards lunch, and we’re really grateful to be recognised alongside so many impressive teams using technology to tackle environmental challenges across Australia.

We’re excited to keep building algae-based wastewater treatment systems that help industrial facilities and regional communities treat wastewater more efficiently, while supporting resource recovery through circular biochar production.
