Tonight’s dinner was barely touched. A few nibbles of pasta, a couple of bites of potato, then “I’m full.”
As a mum, I panicked for a second. As a dietitian, I stopped and thought about her whole day. She’d been with my mother in law, which usually means grazing all day on little bits here and there. So when dinner barely got touched, it wasn’t really a surprise.
I didn’t push it, didn’t offer a backup meal, didn’t comment on how little she’d eaten. I just trusted that she knows her own fullness better than I do.
One light dinner after a day of grazing isn’t something to fix. It’s just balance, playing out exactly the way it’s meant to.
