Cocktails For Mums

Cocktails For Mums Cocktail recipes that use easily found ingredients. Written and tested by mums :-) Not a purist, I’m happy enough to have a tasty cocktail or two on the weekend.

We have a blog that's purpose is to keep track of cocktail recipes that work, and have them on hand. Over the years we’ve enjoyed drinks made for us by expert alcohol artists while out and about. So much so, we’ve had to reinvent, appropriate and amend drinks we’ve enjoyed, approximating their flavours and textures using ingredients in our pantries. I find it difficult to have a cocktail bar’s ful

l range of liqueurs, mixers and garnishes at home. It doesn’t need to be built the way a mixologist first created it in a 1920s speakeasy inspired by a visiting dignitary. These recipes are mash ups and short cuts but we’ve used them, a lot. I’m not including anything that isn’t downed with gusto. We hope you try one or two and please send us your recipes so others can enjoy what you’ve discovered.

Want to make a banana daiquiri with us? The weather is warming up. Bananas are one fruit that's not too expensive right now. Seems like a sensible option.

BANANA DAIQUIRI
Sometimes you need a cocktail that's not too sweet, not too icy with a dose of potassium. Let's not pretend banana daiquiris aren't old fashioned or that we'll be drinking multiple in a session. But, it's in our fave list because it stands alone as probably the best banana based cocktail.

MILK ALTERNATIVES
We don't mess with a classic, but there is versatility, here. Banana adds a creamy mouthfeel so you can swap the traditional dash of cream for any milk. Right now, we're loving Milklab coconut milk.

RECIPE
This is an easy cocktail to whip up with ingredients you already have in the house. Eg. Leftover nutmeg* from that dessert you made last year or the half banana everyone in the house rejected.

In a blender:
Scoop of ice
Half a small banana**
30 ml white rum
30 - 40ml banana liqueur
50 ml cream or milk of your choice

Blend until smooth. Pour into a glass.
Garnish with a little grated nutmeg.

*A grating of fresh nutmeg rounds out a tomato based pasta sauce. A tip courtesy of the late, great Antonio Carluccio.

**Don't blend the banana peel. 😳

In March 2025 we went on a quick adventure to check out Wollongong. Here's a short video of the very beginning of that trip.

We had a fabulous time at the last event at our little venue in Tascott, Locomotive Station. The theme was Italian inspired food and drinks. And this drink was one of the highlights, we think. We made it to our tastes, so of course, we'd love it!

We call it Tiramisu. Creamy, layered, in house cold brew and vodka. Then, served with dark chocolate studded biscotti from our favourite biscuit baker, Julie of Redgum Cookie Company

Dessert in stemware.

Tickets are live now for our next event, St Patrick's Time at 2pm to 4pm Saturday 15 March 2025.
Go here to secure your spot : https://bit.ly/LocoEventTime
We'd hate you to miss out.

If you'd like to grab some of Julie's biscotti, she's given us a few sealed bags, send us a message and we'll put it aside for you before we eat it all.

It's Saturday afternoon and I've trotted down to have a wine with my Mum, Gloria. I also took the opportunity to bring a sad orchid to Grandma's plant hospital. You're getting this post because the wine wombat deserved a photo. Needless to say, we'll never represent Australia at the Selfie Olympics. Double bonus, Mum made a South African dish to nibble alongside the bottle of Little Giant Malbec Shiraz (Clare Valley).

What are you doing to wind down at the end of the week?

When people buy our fresh bottled cocktails they can be nervous about preparation. After all, the industry has created an aura of sophisticated mystery around cocktails.

We like to have cocktails any time and place we feel. Singlet top or cocktail frock.

To allay your worries, Sue filmed Lamese prepping Fab Ferreira cocktails for us in less than sophisticated attire. Let’s set the scene: Hot caravan park, Aldi ice, chips and nuts.

The drinks tasted as nice as if we were hosting a cocktail party. Bonus, we enjoyed ourselves with the fabulous women from the Country Women’s Association, Woy Woy branch.

These Fresh Bottled Cocktails will be available for Valentine’s Day, from our shop in Tascott, Locomotive Station. Contact us to pop in your order and we’ll make up your bottle, fresh.

A. Espresso Martini : Vodka, Kahlua, espresso
B. Marionetto : Bourbon, amaretto, pineapple
C. Margarita Classic : Tequila, triple sec, lemon
D. Frangelina : Spiced rum, Frangelico, lime
E. Fab Ferreira : Tequila, Malibu, lime

ABOUT OUR FRESH BOTTLED COCKTAILS
1. 500ml will make five cocktails.
2. They are the same mixes we serve in our shop and at events.
3. They are a fresh product with nothing added to increase shelf life. Let’s keep them in the fridge.
4. We do not dilute our bottled cocktail mixes. They are ready to shake, not ready to drink. We’re all adults, here.

Cheers!

Happy New Year! How are you keeping cool in the glorious warmth of our Summer?
Could fruity seltzers do the trick? They're so easy. Even better, everyone can make their own.

What have we been up to? Can't remember before but this morning we're the working bee for our favourite oyster farmer, David of Westray Oysters.

We've been serving Westray oysters in our licenced coffee shop Locomotive Station for three years. It's about time we have a look at how much work goes into the baby morsels.
