What happens when our chicks arrive as day-olds?

The first 10 days are all about giving them the best possible start.
• Placed in the central tier of our aviary system for easy monitoring.
• Maintained at a warm, consistent temperature.
• Hand-fed supplementary feed during their first week.
• Closely checked every day to ensure they're healthy and thriving.
A strong start during these first few days helps set the foundation for healthy, well-grown pullets.

What is a POL pullet?

POL stands for Point of Lay - but what exactly does that mean?
A pullet is a young hen under one year old, with our hens generally beginning to lay from around 21 weeks of age.

At Moore Pullets, we specialise in rearing aviary-reared, vaccinated pullets to point of lay, helping prepare them for a smooth transition into their laying environment.

Congratulations to our main man, the guys who dreamt up the idea, designed the sheds and equipment from the ground up, then built the thing. Who gets up every day (and I mean EVERY DAY) to maintain the birds, collect the eggs and push through my list of never ending repairs and 'can we have's?'.
Tom is the ultimate 'Jack of all Trades' when it comes to chicken farming! He's commitment to research and improving our business, infrastructure and above all else bird welfare never ceases. Very deserving recognition in our industry!

🔊 Sound on for happy birds at ease!
Our birds are reared in a multi-tier aviary system designed to encourage natural behaviours like jumping, flying and perching. Regular walkthroughs and calm handling mean our birds are used to people, helping reduce stress during catching and transition onto farm.
The result? Calm, confident birds that transition well into pasture and free range systems.

How do we know the vaccination program has worked?
A few weeks after vaccination, blood samples are taken from selected birds and sent for testing to check the flock's immune response.
This helps us:
• Confirm the vaccines have been administered correctly.
• Ensure the birds have developed the expected immunity.
• Verify the vaccination program is working as intended.
• Give our customers confidence they're receiving healthy, well-protected pullets.
It's an important step in our rearing process and one of the ways we help deliver birds that are ready to transition into lay with confidence.

At Moore Pullets, one of our biggest responsibilities is giving every pullet the best possible start to life.
As part of our rearing program, our pullets receive the routine vaccinations recommended for commercial layer flocks. These are designed to help protect birds against common diseases that can impact their health, welfare and long-term productivity.
Good health also comes from quality nutrition, clean water, fresh air, careful husbandry,
low-stress handling, strong biosecurity and experienced rearing.
Healthy pullets are the foundation of a successful laying flock, and we’re proud of the care
that goes into raising every bird.
