Huge shout out to all the volunteers in the who drop everything at a moments notice to put out unplanned fires & keep our properties safe! 🙏

Sadly, there have been three fires in the last three days. Thankfully today’s fire was not threatening any houses & we caught it not long after it had started & called 000

The firies were able to get it under control by adding a new firebreak & making sure it didn’t get too far, but it still burnt quite a large area.

With no substantial rain in winter, it is so dry here and place is a tinderbox. Its scary to think of what could happen without our emergency services & local volunteers all pitching in.

When the chickens throw you a curveball & your egg basket goes from full to empty overnight…

Its always good to under why! Here are some of my thoughts ⬇️

1 - change of season. Often the ladies will stop or slow egg laying when it gets too cold and/or the amount of daylight they are getting changes.

2. Worms or other pests & diseases. Flock health is important to maintain healthy hens and a good laying rate.

3. Predators. If your hens feel unsafe, they may start hiding eggs or completely stop laying until they feel safe and secure again.

We took a big hit to our farming operation yesterday.

Our buggy, which we rely so heavily upon to cart water, collect eggs and so much more, went up in flames. It had been recently serviced and was running really well, until it wasn’t, & lost power then exploded into flames.

Luckily Sparkles & I both escaped unscathed, but the buggy, all its contents and my phone were incinerated (so don’t try to ring me coz I won’t answer lol). All we could do was try to contain the grass fire with the tractor (legendary husband!) until the firies arrived and put it out.

A huge thanks to the awesome first responders (fire fighters and ambos) who came so quickly to help and make sure we were ok.
