Welcome to the official page of Persimmons Australia! Australian Persimmons are in season from late February to mid June (Autumn to Winter) and come in two delicious varieties – sweet and original. Sweet persimmons are what you are most likely to see in shops and markets – they are round, have a slightly flattened top and comprise around 90 per cent of production in Australia. Original persimmons
are known for their large, heart-shaped silhouette and colour, which ranges from pale orange to deep red-orange. Persimmons are best enjoyed fresh and the sweet ones can be peeled and eaten like an apple for a healthy snack, or added to a range of dishes like salads as well as cheese boards. Original persimmons are best eaten when they are soft – simply tear or cut away the top then scoop into nature’s little bowl of ready-made, sweet, silky jelly. Original persimmons and sweet ones that have gone beyond their firm stage are also great for cooking – just pop them into a cake or muffin mix for an autumnal update to your traditional baked goods. Approximately 2500 tonnes of persimmons are harvested Australia annually with the bulk of fruit grown in Queensland. Other key growing areas include coastal New South Wales, the Goulburn and Murray Valleys in Victoria and South Australia as well as some areas of the south west corner in Western Australia.
