BOC South Pacific, a key industrial gas supplier to JBS, has been recognised at Australian Manufacturing Week (AMW) 2026, taking out both the Innovation in Food & Beverage Manufacturing Award and the prestigious Manufacturer of the Year Award.

These accolades recognise the collaborative work between BOC and JBS in delivering an innovative solution to replace carbon dioxide (dry ice) with a liquid nitrogen tunnel for chilling beef trim in the Dinmore TMS room.

In Australia, carbon dioxide is typically recovered as a by-product of natural gas and ammonia production. This creates an inherent supply vulnerability, with availability frequently impacted by maintenance outages at upstream plants. As a result, businesses can face the need to source CO₂ interstate or internationally often at significantly higher cost. This risk was further highlighted in 2022, when Queensland’s only local CO₂ production facility closed following the shutdown of its associated ammonia plant.

Recognising this challenge, JBS partnered with BOC to identify and implement a reliable alternative. Unlike CO₂, nitrogen is abundant in the atmosphere and is produced locally in Brisbane, providing a more stable and resilient supply for the Queensland market.

The nitrogen tunnel project represents a major step forward in both operational resilience and sustainability. Delivered through strong cross-functional collaboration across Operations, Engineering and Procurement alongside BOC’s technical expertise the project demonstrates the impact of aligned teams working towards a common goal.

Beyond mitigating supply risk, the initiative has delivered measurable improvements in cost performance and environmental outcomes. This industry recognition reflects the strength of the partnership through JBS and our Suppliers and highlights the value of innovation and collaboration in driving future-focused solutions.

After arriving from Brazil and spending just three weeks at our Dinmore facility, working at the plant while studying at the JBS English Academy, Arlei Silva Costa has already stepped into his new role as Harvest Floor Foreman.

Arlei has been praised for his strong people skills, leadership, and determination. He says he’s loving working with the Aussie team and is grateful for the opportunities Dinmore has provided.

Alongside his role at the plant, Arlei is also studying at our English Academy, supporting international team members to build their English skills while continuing in their specialised roles and growing their global career opportunities.

While finding learning a new language challenging, Arlei feels fortunate to have the opportunity to live and work in Australia. His advice is, “stay true to who you are, give your best every day, and your goals will always be within reach.”

We’re excited to follow Arlei’s journey and see what he achieves next!

Winter Warmer Drive Helping Warm the Community

To support people in need during the colder months, the Riverview Office, JBS Northern Headquarters, recently hosted a Winter Warmer Blanket Drive and thanks to the generosity of the team, 60 blankets were donated to local charity organisation Rosies.

For more than 35 years, Rosies, also known as Friends on the Street, has been providing friendship and support to people experiencing homelessness and marginalisation. Today, the organisation is backed by more than 1,500 volunteers across 14 branches throughout Queensland making a meaningful difference in local communities.

The donated blankets will be distributed to local community members, helping to provide much needed warmth and comfort this winter.

JBS Australia continued its commitment to developing the next generation of industry leaders by sponsoring and sending a delegation to the 2026 Intercollegiate Meat Judging (ICMJ) Northern Conference in Rockhampton, Queensland. The group represented key areas of the business, including sales, livestock, feedlot and processing.

Our team members joined over 200 participants, representing universities and industry, for a packed four-day program. The conference kicked off with professional development sessions and insights from Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) on why the global market demands Australian beef.

Beyond the lecture theatre, the program offered invaluable hands-on experience at the saleyards, where participants engaged in live animal judging to understand the complexities of live animal assessment and its direct impact on profit. Targeted workshops also covered retail and primal identification, eating quality evaluation, and the innovative utilization of offal and by-products.

The week concluded as our team spent the final morning, admittedly freezing in the chillers, rotating through stations that tested their knowledge of beef pricing, primal judging, and eating quality evaluation.

By participating in events like the ICMJ Northern Conference, we continue to ensure our team members are at the forefront of industry developments. We are proud to support an initiative that fosters the talent and expertise required to drive the global red meat industry forward.

JBS Riverina Producer Field Day
“Put on a field day, and bring on the rain”

Last week our JBS Livestock team along with the JBS Riverina Feedlot and Plant opened its doors and feedlot rows up to producers for an open field day.

With producers travelling near and far, vendors gained unfettered access to tour the feedlot and throughout the processing plant.
Following this, the field day speaker program included (with the minimal usage of the “F” word – Fuel!)
• Global beef market update by JBS Northern COO Brendan Tatt
• Livestock program outlooks with JBS Northern and Southern Livestock Managers’ Edwin Cooke and Steve Chapman
• Farm to Feedlot Animal Health program delivered by Dr Tony Batterham from APIAM Animal Health
• Keynote Speaker: MARK BOURIS - whom presented despite the rain and winds to the producer group on current Australian economic outlooks and in-depth analysis of current global events

We thank all those that could attend on the day who travelled various distances to join us, and the JBS Riverina Team’s for putting on such a great day and facilities.
