Rosato, tutta la giornata...🌷

Introducing the latest rosés to land from Tuscan gem, Fattoria Petreto. A tart and refreshing Sangiovese rose perfect for these long summer days, and the dazzling “Alma” - a traditional method sparkling Sangio, late disgorged with 33 months on lees and zero dosage. A bright way to kick off any celebration! 💗

Benvenuto MASTROBERARDINO

One of the world’s most celebrated wineries, Mastroberardino’s operations date back to 1878, producing wine in Atripalda, in the heart of Irpinia in central Campania. After the devastating effects of phylloxera, economic depression, and World War II, Antonio Mastroberardino worked passionately to restore the family land and brand, focusing on the grapes like Fiano, Greco di Tufo, and Aglianico rather than popular international varieties. If it weren’t for his efforts, these grapes would likely be extinct today. For this reason, Antonio became known as the “vine archaeologist”, resurrecting ancient varietals that date back to the Greek & Roman eras.

Furthermore, Mastroberardino was among the first estates to produce Taurasi and helped define the appellation, encompassing extraordinary age-worthy Aglianico, the “Barolo” of the South if you will.

10th generation Piero, Antonio’s son, runs estate operations today, continuing to showcase Campania as a prime region for quality and terroir-driven wines. Each vintage showcases the diversity of the soils on which the indigenous vines thrive: mineral-laden volcanic tuff from the foothills of Mount Vesuvius as well as limestone-rich clays.

We’re excited to showcase the wines of Mastroberardino not only on account of the family’s pioneering work, but also for the fine quality drops they produce.

On Friday we welcomed the latest wines from Villa Bucci into Sydney, and concurrently learnt of Ampelio Bucci’s passing.

An icon in the world of Verdicchio and for independent vintners throughout Italy, Ampelio will be forever viewed as a visionary. He revolutionised winemaking practices for Marche in the 1980s, showcasing the complexity and age worthiness of Verdicchio via focused organic citiculture and slow oak aging. We can thank Ampelio - “Il Professore” - for some of Italy’s finest examples of white wine today, both the Bucci Verdicchio Riserva and Verdicchio Classico. A founding member of Il Federazione Italiana Vignaioli Indipendenti, Ampelio will certainly be remembered for his ardent support of smaller growers alongside his passion for quality craftsmanship.

With gratitude, we are honoured to help share his story and the wines of Villa Bucci here in Australia. 💚

Crisp autumn days call for the beautiful range of Valpolicella from Le Calendre. Fragrant and charming, with violets, spice, and balsamic on the nose, these wines are tied to the traditions of the land, with the Peretti family ensuring they honour the generations of winemakers before them with their craft.

The term “Le Calendre” refers to an ancient method of recording and forecasting the weather, directing the work to be done in the vineyards and cellar, which the family carries out organically and with minimal interference in the foothills of San Pietro in Cariano, the heart of Valpolicella Classico.

A trailblazing name in natural wine, the wines of Movia are full of unique personality. From the undisgorged “Puro” sparklings, to the deep, intense reds, and the mineral-laden, skin influenced whites, these wines carry a unique sense of place and typicity. Amidst the new arrivals on our shores this month is Movia’s “Vigna Dol Malval” Malvasia:

Brilliant straw with a golden hue and a dense texture, its intense bouquet carries yellow apple, mango, pineapple, orange, and lemon. Almond blossom intertwines with a delicate hint of honey, white pepper, and a touch of butter. Flavours of tropical fruit, marzipan, and white flowers linger.
