Pinot NOW's range is based upon the famous, elusive Pinots from Oregon and California in the United States – wines of wonderful poise, concentration and elegance. From this base, we are increasingly dealing with great wines from the finest Pinot producing regions of Australia, New Zealand and France. Shipped in small volumes, these are exciting and exclusive wines. The Pinot NOW portfolio is curat
ed by Steven Naughton, a pinotphile who turned a passion into a business. After a chance encounter with Oregon Pinot Noirs while holidaying in the USA, and frustrated at being unable to find any of these wonderful wines on his return to Australia, Steven established Pinot NOW in 2000 as means to introduce likeminded enthusiasts to the joys of Oregon Pinot (and to stock his own cellar). As this “after-hours” project gained momentum, the burning of the midnight oil started to impact on his other life in corporate information technology. A choice had to be made: financial stability or quality of life? So when Steven quit his day job in 2002 to devote himself 100% to Pinot NOW his colleagues called it a brave decision; his family and friends called him downright foolhardy! More than decade after humble beginnings, Pinot NOW is widely recognised throughout Australia as a one-stop shop for an eclectic range Pinots of outstanding grace and finesse. Steven has been heard to say (perhaps after imbibing one too many glasses of the stock in trade)… “Pinot Noir is like the Hollywood starlet of grape varieties - flighty, temperamental, moody, requiring delicate care and attention (but with minimal interference); capable of anything but occasionally delivering performances that leave her admirers feeling disappointed, her detractors feeling vindicated, and everyone else wondering what the fuss is all about. Yet every now and again she turns in a virtuoso performance that touches all the emotions, winning new hearts and leaving all her devotees - new and old - yearning for more.”
The evolution of the Pinot NOW portfolio is driven by the search for those virtuoso performances. We invite sommeliers, cellar-masters, fine wine store managers and all others within the wine industry who share a passion for Pinot to join us on our journey of exploration.
