Been a busy start to the show with so many events already completed.

Steer results are in and Mallbrae placed with steers in both hook and hoof. With our donated steer at Mt Barker High being a member of TFI team and placing in the ring with a 2nd and a first place on hook

Thankyou to all of our helpers Amy Nankivell your a legend, Ally Peters my ever faithful sister Lorraine and of course the kids, for they are why we keep racking them up.

A massive congratulations to our friends Shirley Barker and Emma Kerrigan on an awesome steer competition it was a great night for you, with so much success and we are so lucky to be able to have played a small part in your success.

Heifer Challenge seen us with a fourth place with Mallbrae Morilla Showtime, Charlotte did a great job of leading, she's a big heifer.

Mallbrae Morilla Showtime was lent out for the National Handling competition with Olivia Baker, lucky enough to draw out Showtime, helping her to achieve her dreams by successfully winning the competition. Congratulations and well lead.

The herdperson competition is now completed thankyou Abby and Pinky for having Charlotte in your team you made a kid pretty proud to be apart of the action with you, but Murray Grey suits her better lol

And lastly for this post Libby was over from WA for the National Fleece judging competition, speaking super well with great reasons to secure a 3rd place in the competition.

So for now that's it stay tuned for MG judging, our calf classic design, and junior handling.

Lovely sunny day at Gawler Show, spent with Great minded people, always some laughs with Ashvell Murray Greys we are not photo takers, so here's what we have. The idea for going the extra yards before Adelaide was to get some cattle (3) out and about and give Charlotte some more time in the ring which she did a lovely job of. With her big heifer Mallbrae Morilla Showtime to secure 3rd in a big class of young handlers under 15.

Showtime was our star of the day, winning her class, Champion female, and Champion Female of show, she then went out with her maternal sister and together they won the pair of females.

Thankyou to the dedicated ladies, Jackie Wilson, Chloe, and Lauren what a great job you girls do with keeping everything flowing for the day, we see you and appreciate your efforts for without you we have no show.

Data Can’t Fix What Selection Broke and Your Grandpa Knew It...
Data is only useful if the foundation is sound. But in today’s cattle world, whole operations are trying to solve fertility, efficiency, and longevity problems with spreadsheets while ignoring the fact that their selection pressure created the problem in the first place. You can’t index your way out of a broken cow herd. You can’t chase extremes, prop it all up with inputs, and act shocked when it falls apart.

Your grandpa didn’t need formulas to find good cows. He watched them. He bred for cows that stuck around—ones that calved on time, raised a good one, and held up year after year. No excuses. No second chances. Just function.

Somewhere along the line, we stopped trusting our eyes and started trusting indexes built by people who’ve never culled a cow in their life. We’ve been measuring the wrong things for the wrong reasons, chasing marbling and milk curves while ignoring the basics: structural integrity, hormonal balance, natural fertility, moderate frames, and the ability to thrive on grass.

If you’re keeping cows around with feed, shots, and technician schedules, then it’s not your genetics doing the work. It’s your wallet. Numbers have their place, but they’re not magic. And they sure as hell aren’t a substitute for sound selection.

Maybe your grandpa didn’t have a laptop. But he had cattle that worked. And he knew how to spot the ones that didn’t.
