Well its been a year at Bugs Bees.
First we got hit with the dreaded varroa mite. We panicked, called in the varroa management team, treated with a mitacide, then didnt sleep because we treated with a mitacide, but it worked. Varroa under control, new treatment options explored, then had a small hive beetle outbreak as our bees were weak. Panic, treatment for that, then re-infected with varroa. Another treatment, sorted. Happy bees, hives strengthing again....then the unthinkable, totally un-imaginable ...our new neighbour poisioned our hives. Yes you read that right...POISIONED..our hives.
Needless to say we were devastated and rather mad!
Long story short, we wiped our tears, stood ourselves up and Bugs Bees is back!
We couldnt of made it here without the unwavering support of all our family, friends, our other increadible neighbours, Qld beekeepers and an amazing commercial beekeeper called Nikki.
We are not saying it will be easy, it wont. Our hives are under the watchful eyes of a new security system and the police have a full report.
Now we move forward, stronger..
We just did our first, all be it very small, honey harvest. Our girls are strong, we have two new queens on order, we have learnt alot and will continue our beekeeping journey knowing your all behind us.
