One herb that we grow at Karrabilli Retreat is the humble 'w**d' English or Ribwort Plaintain (Plantago lanceolata).
Fresh plaintain leaves can be chewed to a poultice to ease stings, bites or cuts.
We have even used the cooling, soothing, anti-inflammatory properties of a plaintain poultice to reduce red and itchy eyes resulting from severe bouts of hay fever.
Internally, the heat drawing properties of plaintain tea can be useful for calming the gastrointestinal inflammation.

Karrabilli Retreat was delighted to host a fun morning with a local group of homeschoolers!
The highlights for our little visitors were feeding the animals, especially Nutsy our Shetland Pony, the noisy geese, chalk drawings, and catching tadpoles and frogs before carefully releasing them back into the pond!
Karrabilli Eats supplied a healthy morning tea with a fruit platter, nut-free choc biscuits and chocolate fudge slice.✨
Mums enjoyed a cuppa while the kids were occupied with colouring in and chatting about the Scavenger Hunt which featured Farmer Bill!😂
Apparently 'Everything was their favourite thing!'🤩

Other than those few 'little' things... we actually do love life on the farm!😘

Time to Pause...🤔
Here we are in the pause...
The pause between crisis and normality...
Taking time to reflect on the last few days...
Fire conditions, wind direction, safety of livestock and ourselves, evacuations (yes, 2 of them), the absolute comfort drawn from sharing stories and hugs with fellow evacuees, holding everything dear to us as we just hold hands...❤
The roads are blocked and permits are required to come back to home when venturing out for much needed supplies...
We're on the second day of no power... which means no water for farm peeps like ourselves.
Yet, there is an air of make do and resilience... as long as we're in our own home, we can manage.👍🏼
So, in this pause... before the rush of normality comes hurtling back, we can take a breath...
As we scan the clear horizon... We can pause to be grateful and so appreciative of all the support we have received to get to this point in time.🙏😘
Our amazing Firefighters, friends and neighbours will forever hold a special place in our hearts!🥰
Our thoughts and love go out to those directly affected by the fire.💕
In this moment of pause, it's amazing to realise what is actually important in your life. When you have to Evacuate Now, you need little of what you have spent years accumulating.
So, before the power and water comes back on, and the roadblocks have been removed... I'm taking this time to sit quietly in gratitude, to reflect on priorities and to just breathe...

Now that we've doubled our flock of geese from 2 to 4, we thought we should upgrade the Day Spa facilities in their enclosure! We now have 2 boys and 2 girls. They do love to have a good wash and it usually leads to a bit of 🦢❤🦢 in the bath! Geese naturally mate in water, so we needed to provide adequate space instead of having them line up in the old kids 'clamshell' bath for their daily... errr... 'wash.' 😂 By the looks of this, I think they are happy with the new arrangements... we just added some rocks to help them get in and out. #geeselovin #goosieganders #dayspa

We've been waiting (im)patiently for the lambs to arrive...and here they are!🐑🐑 So blessed to witness this little cutie just minutes after mum has given birth. She tenderly cleans up the little one, as strong instincts are at work urging the lamb to get up and suckle. The legs are wobbly, but the bond is stronger! This is nature at its finest... and one of the reasons we just love living on the farm.😍 Can't wait for spring time, when there will be lots of lambs frolicking in the pastures...😊 And this little one just happens to share it's birthday with our amazing grandson Jake, who is 11 today! A winter staple in our household is a Thai twist on a classic favourite – pumpkin soup.🍲 This paleo friendly Thai Spicy Pumpkin Coconut Soup is bursting with flavours of the Orient. 🌶 A perfect winter warmer when the rainy weather keeps you indoors.☔️ This soup is ideal to batch up into individual containers for ready-made delicious lunches for the working week ahead.👏 The recipe is the brainchild of Irena Macri, a qualified nutrition coach, whose website is packed full of healthy and delicious recipes such as this one… Thai Spicy Pumpkin Coconut Soup INGREDIENTS 1 brown onion, diced 1 lemongrass stalk, cut in thirds 1 long red chilli, diced and deseeded 2 Tbl diced fresh coriander (cilantro) stalks/roots 2-cm fresh galangal piece (or 1 tsp powder, but optional) 2-cm turmeric root piece (or 1 tsp turmeric powder) 4 kaffir lime leaves, optional 2 tsp coconut oil 4 cups peeled and cubed pumpkin (sweet kind like Kent/Jap is best) 2 garlic cloves, diced 2 Tbl fish sauce (use coconut aminos or Tamari as an alternative) 1 Litre vegetable stock Peel from half of fresh lime 1/2 cup coconut cream (100ml), plus extra to serve 2 Tbl lime juice Coriander/cilantro leaves to serve INSTRUCTIONS ✨Add the onion, lemongrass, chilli, coriander stalks, galangal, turmeric and kaffir lime leaves to a medium saucepan and sauté in coconut oil over medium heat for 2–3 minutes. ✨Add the pumpkin, garlic, lime peel, fish sauce and vegetable stock and bring to the boil. Turn the heat down and simmer for 15 minutes, covered, until pumpkin is soft when poked with a knife. ✨Remove the turmeric, galangal, lime peel and lemongrass from the soup and transfer the rest to a food processor or a blender, in batches if needed. ✨Puree until smooth, then add the coconut cream and lime juice. Whiz a couple more times to incorporate. Serve with a ripple of coconut cream and fresh coriander leaves on top. ✨ENJOY! 👉Link to full recipe, and a much better insta worthy
