Price Doesn't Always Mean Value—Risk Does.

When I first started learning about procurement and commercial operations, I believed the supplier offering the lowest price was always the best choice.

Over time, I realised that purchasing decisions are rarely about price alone—they're about managing risk.

Imagine you have two suppliers.

Supplier A offers the lowest price.

Supplier B charges a little more.

At first glance, Supplier A looks like the obvious choice. But before making a decision, a commercial or supply chain professional should ask a few important questions:

Can the supplier consistently deliver on time?

Do they have experience with international shipments?

Are their product certifications valid?

Are the payment terms secure?

Do they have a proven track record with other customers?

Now consider this scenario.

You choose the cheaper supplier to save costs. Later, the shipment is delayed by two weeks. Production stops because raw materials haven't arrived. Customers receive their orders late, and the company pays penalties for missing delivery deadlines.

The money saved on the purchase price quickly disappears through operational losses.

This is why experienced supply chain professionals look beyond the price tag. They evaluate the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)—the complete cost of buying from a supplier, including quality issues, delivery performance, inventory costs, compliance risks, and business continuity.

In supply chain management, the cheapest supplier isn't always the most cost-effective supplier.

Sometimes paying a little more means gaining reliability, reducing uncertainty, and protecting the entire business operation.

A good Commercial or Supply Chain professional doesn't simply negotiate for the lowest price.

They make decisions that balance cost, quality, delivery, and risk.

Because in the end, the goal isn't just to save money—it's to ensure the business keeps moving without disruption.

দাদীর হাতে শেখা আমের আচার প্রস্তুতি শুরু... 🥭❤️

ছোটবেলায় গরমের দুপুর মানেই ছিল উঠানে শুকাতে দেওয়া কাঁচা আমের টুকরো, রান্নাঘর ভরে থাকা সরিষার তেলের গন্ধ আর দাদীর ব্যস্ততা।

দাদী খুব যত্ন করে আচার বানাতেন। প্রথমে রোদে শুকানো আম, তারপর একে একে মশলা বাছাই। চুলায় খাঁটি সরিষার তেল গরম করে তাতে ফোড়ন দিতেন। সেই ফোড়নের গন্ধে পুরো বাড়ি যেন অন্যরকম হয়ে যেত। আমরা সবাই বুঝে যেতাম, আজ আচার বানানোর দিন।

তখন বুঝিনি, দাদী শুধু আচার বানাতেন না, স্মৃতি বানাতেন। ভালোবাসা মিশিয়ে, ধৈর্য মিশিয়ে, সংসারের গল্প মিশিয়ে একটা কাচের বয়ামে ভরে রাখতেন পুরো একটা ঋতু।

আজ এত বছর পরেও,প্রতিবছর ই , সেই একই নিয়মে আমিও আচার বানানোর প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছি। খাঁটি সরিষার তেল, দাদীর শেখানো ফোড়ন আর তার কাছ থেকে শেখা ছোট ছোট কৌশলগুলো মনে করার চেষ্টা করছি।

হয়তো আমার আচারে দাদীর হাতের সেই জাদু আসবে না। কিন্তু প্রতিটি মশলার ঘ্রাণে, প্রতিটি আমের টুকরোয় আমি আজও তার ভালোবাসা খুঁজে পাই।

কিছু স্বাদ কখনো শুধু খাবারের স্বাদ হয় না। কিছু স্বাদের সাথে জড়িয়ে থাকে মানুষ, স্মৃতি, শৈশব আর এক টুকরো মায়া।

আজকের এই আচার বানানোর আয়োজনে দাদীকে খুব মনে পড়ছে। মনে হচ্ছে, কোথাও বসে তিনি এখনও দেখছেন—আমি ঠিকমতো ফোড়ন দিলাম কি না, তেলের পরিমাণ ঠিক হলো কি না, আর আচারে ভালোবাসাটা দিতে ভুললাম কি না।

কারণ দাদী বলতেন, "আচার শুধু মশলা দিয়ে হয় না মা, আচারে একটু মায়াও দিতে হয়।" ❤️🥭
