The story of successful entrepreneur Shaheen.
A young man named Shaheen (31) of Paikpara village on the bank of the Jamuna river in Kaliaharipur Union of Sadar Upazila of Sirajganj. Shaheen is the eldest among the 4 children of his parent. With an added pressure on him in the family, he gained graduation as well as spent several days in search of a job but could not succeed there. As he knew computers, he worked for a while as a computer operator in the information service center of the Union Parishad. He was living an unemployed life in a kind of depression. One of his neighbors elder brother who was working in his area as an AI technician, one day suggested him to take 3 months training in cattle rearing from youth development, as per his suggestion he took the training. Then, under the supervision of Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Haroon Ur Rashid, he began to gain basic knowledge about veterinary services from the field level at the DLS. Later, he started to consolidate his experience by providing livestock management services to some farmers in his neighboring areas. In this way, the people of the area built a trust in his livestock service and gradually his clients started to increase. And after a few days he himself started an animal private chamber called Shaheen Veterinary Medical Hall in Paikpara Bazar, Sirajganj. Later, BRAC has been providing Artificial Insemination services to cattle and black bengal goats in the area after receiving the training from Patuakhali Science and Technology University as an Artificial Insemination service provider. After that he started earning 10/15 thousand a month by providing cattle primary treatment and Artificial Insemination services.
At the beginning of 2022, under the “Rural Micro Enterprise Transformation Project” with the financial support of IFAD and PKSF, the sub-project “Safe meat and dairy products market development” National Development Program-NDP has been implementing the sub project in 24 Unions of 06 Upazilas in Sirajganj Pabna Districts with 24000 farmers and 1000 entrepreneurs. Under this project, Md. Shahin Hossain joined as an LSP and later received 9-day training in 3 phases on livestock technology and business management training from the project. After that the project partner through Empower Social Enterprise Private Sector received training on Khamar Budhu, S Manager, Tali Khata, Farm Management through Sudakkho Apps, Ration Calculator, Vaccination/Deworming, Income Expenditure Calculation, Cow Weight etc.
At present, LSP Shahin providing service about 2000 cattle farmers in 5 unions of Sirajganj Sadar and Belkuchi provide advice on urgent issues related to artificial insemination medical services, deworming, vaccination, goat vaccination, management of farms and providing medical services. About 250 farmers are being provided regular services through Android phones through Khamar Bandhu Apps. Now he is welcomed by the farmers of the area as a farm friend. Now he has been providing advice and services to farmers regularly through online platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Messenger, etc., on various diseases related to animal treatment and various viruses and bacteria through various social networks. He said, "NDP RMTP project has been playing an important role in my business expansion, development of technical skills and communication with various stakeholders and as LSP of the project, direct involvement of farmers in cattle rearing training, vaccine, deworming campaign activities, on the one hand, as a link with my client. , on the other hand the income of my profession is increasing day by day, in view of which my income has been reduced to around 25/30 thousand taka compared to before.
Currently, He have a cow farm with about 4 cows and 4 calves. To provide ICT services to the farmers, he purchased a smart phone forTk- 2500, besides, his pharmacy has high-quality medicines for farmers worth about Tk-200000 and he purchased a motorcycle to provide services quickly.
In future, he plans to set up a private diagnostic lab to provide better animal services and to process and develop packet meat and milk to ensure safe milk and meat to consumers.
