Four years ago, Baladi opened its doors for the very first time. A space in our image – a mix of Syria, Belgium, food, gentleness, poetry, art, and music 🇸🇾🇧🇪
A slightly crazy project, launched with little to no experience, on a shoestring budget, in the middle of a global pandemic, in an area where restaurants didn’t have the best reputation 🙃
Over the years, through personal and professional challenges, Baladi kept growing. It went through a full makeover – chairs wore out, tables cracked, flowers wilted. The décor evolves – not often enough for Alice, far too often for Mohammad 🙄
Every morning, every evening, the gestures repeat. The team talks, argues, laughs, gets tired. Some come and go, following their own paths. Some have been here from the very beginning. Others were just passing through 🤝🏻
Today, we serve over 100 guests every day. Most leave happy they came. Many return, and over time, they’ve become familiar faces 🥹
In these 4 years, our little restaurant has witnessed countless birthdays, 4 epic New Year’s Eves, The collapse of a brutal regime , far too many painful falls and small daily struggles, a few disastrous services (but mostly successful ones), days with barely anyone and others with way too many 😏
This anniversary is, above all, a chance to say thank you – to our teams, and to our customers: for their enthusiasm, their kindness, their encouragement, loyalty, and support.
Four years ago, we dreamed big… but we never imagined this much. And we hope it lasts for a long, long time 🤞🏻🫶🏻
