🍷 Keep it Cool. Keep it Loire.

Deze campagne staat in het teken van de Loire, en we bijten de spits af met Domaine David, Clos du Ferré, Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine, 100% Melon de Bourgogne.

Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine ligt helemaal in het westen van de Loire, dicht bij de Atlantische kust, en staat bekend om zijn levendige, minerale witte wijnen. Domaine David, in familiebezit sinds 1927, is sinds 2024 volledig Biologisch gecertificeerd — hun Clos du Ferré geldt als dé referentie van het domein.

2023 — Een uitstekende, veelzijdige gastronomische wijn. Bleekgoudgeel van kleur, met veel spanning en aroma’s van citroenzeste. Fris, intens en levendig, met in de mond een mooie zuurgraad, zilte toetsen en nuances van zeegras voor een bijzonder appetijtwekkend geheel. De elegante, energieke stijl blijft mooi aanhouden tot in de lange afdronk. Momenteel uitstekend op dronk.

2018 — Expressief en verfijnd, met levendige grapefruit en subtiele toetsen van geroosterde cashew en mineraliteit. Het palet is breed en soepel, met een mooie textuur en diepgang, en mondt uit in een lange, elegante afdronk met geroosterde amandel. Een prachtig terroir-gedreven Muscadet met zowel rijkdom als frisheid.

Jacques Thienpont celebrated his 80th birthday last week. Surrounded by the people who have shared his journey over the years.

A life shaped by passion, generosity and an enduring love for nature. We were delighted to celebrate this special occasion together at Hof The Cattebeke in Etikhove and at Le Pin in Pomerol, where Jacques was surprised with a beautiful collection of trees to be planted across the estates.

As the last w**es of the En Primeurs campaign are released – always Petrus and Le Pin bringing up the rear – it is time to reflect on the 2025 futures. It has been a rather stately affair, with w**e trickling out gently over the last six weeks. No haggling over prices or screaming for allocations: the trade seems to have accepted that quantities are mercifully low and the allocations they have been given without complaint. No quibbling over quality either, as generous press scores and flattering reviews have helped usher the w**es onto the main stage.

No rush either to sell the w**es, as the closing deadline of many primeurs has been pushed back to the end of the summer, allowing merchants to take their time to explain the w**es to their customers and decide whether it is worth tying up money in w**es that will not be ready to drink for at least five years.

All in all, it has been a remarkably courteous campaign. As I publish my final notes, many of my absolute favourite w**es – Mouton, Margaux, Figeac, Église-Clinet, Vieux Château Certan, Montrose, Léoville Las Cases, L’If and Petrus – round off the campaign.

Bordeaux has survived, and the estates live to fight another day. With an abundant harvest predicted for 2026 and, although I may be tempting fate, the weather holding for the moment, Bordeaux’s resilience in producing such fresh, fragrant and delicious w**es bodes well for the future. In the meantime, here is the final chance to secure some of the lovely 2025s.
