Looking for a tasty aperitif? Then you should visit , an apero and wine shop close to Sint-Pieters station, ran by two friends Barbara and Renske.
•
Pompette which means in French ‘a bit tipsy’, is primarily a shop for wine & apero food but you can also enjoy some of the many snacks and delicious wine on the spot, and on the terrace for warm days.

About the food, you can find a fine selection of French with local influences: charcuterie, cheeses, dips, apero snacks.

Of course also a nice selection less-known wines not easy to find elsewhere. They only work with small-scale winegrowers from Europe, especially Southern Europe who made natural, organic or biodynamic wines. From time to time they organise wine tastings: I happily participated to the last one, it was great way to discover their selection!

The summer season has just ended today but I still want to talk about !
Gaston is a temporary summer restaurant and bar. Located on top floor of the Galveston building, it’s a unique industrial setting with an outdoor rooftop terrace to enjoy a view of the Ghent’s skyline.
•
On the menu, a Belgian/ French cuisine with a twist with a selection of meat, fish or vegetarian dishes.
We started with cauliflower bbq wings that was a delicious surprise. Then the plumba iberico pork and the artichoke ravioli with pecorino, really tasty!
•
You can also go there just for drinks, to enjoy the lounge chairs or play pétanque.
Possible to rent it for private or corporate events from September to June.

Zebrabeach is open during the summer months of July and August!
The square of Zebrastraat with its cozy pool is transformed into a summer pop-up bar in a beach set up.

Nice place to enjoy a mocktail or cocktail with feet in the water or in the sand! Also kids friendly. ⛱💦

Opened since 2018 at Portus Ganda .gent is a good place to get an icecream during the summer days.
This is an ice cream place but also does breakfast and lunch such as sandwiches and buffet brunch on the weekends.
•
About icecream you can choose between classics, such as a dame blanche or banana split, but also for a fresh and fruity ice cream (sorbet and seasonal fruit) like I did!
There is always the option to create your own affogato by having a coffee and a ball of vanilla ice!
And the bowls from .be are obviously a plus 🤩

The nice indoor with the mint paint and pretty b&w tiles has a large sitting area. If you prefer outdoor there is also small terrace with some tables facing the river.

Ready for a delicious address in town? Let’s talk about Ferri!
•
Opened since May 2021, Ferri is the vegetarian restaurant of Julie Van Gysel and Jethro Ferri.
•
There it’s all about vegetarian dishes to share, homemade lemonades, natural wines and beers.
On the menu you can find agnolotti with homemade ricotta and wild garlic pesto, grilled white asparagus with mimosa eggs and hazelnut…and for dessert a delicious sabayon with rhubarb and shiso!
•
Next to the food the place itself is lovely and was totally renovated. It’s a mix of authentic elements with a fresh modern vibe. From the outside you will notice the blue paint and the yellow neon. And once inside the original tiled floor, the wooden ceiling and the long wooden bench.
It’s not big but definitely cosy.

A great address, for everyone, vegetarian or not.

Well, is the right place to eat ramen! Ideally located between the center and the train station, this restaurant is known among locals.
It is a place where people get together, to meet up and seat next to each other for casual talks. The essence of Zuru Zuru Ramen: quality and authenticity.

About the food, all is made with fresh and local ingredients for qualitative ramen. Everything is homemade, even the noodles.
I was kindly invited to try it out and went for their spicy miso made with their top secret spicy recipe: I can honestly say it was great! Also the yuzu shio ramen with yuzu citrus & briny sea salt based was delicious. For a full Japanese experience I would recommend to add a yuzu beer and some gyoza!

Steamywindows.be is the first dumpling bar in Ghent! Here are the reasons why you should absolutely go there. 🥢🥟🍶

Inside steam baskets, a large choice of dumplings or buns that come with different fillings: either meat, seafood or vegan or even gluten-free. All are delicious, you can’t go wrong. For dessert Charcoal custard buns are surely a must.
•
For drinks, nice selection of sakes, natural wines and great cocktails. I would highly recommend the Yoigokochi yuzushu cocktail made with sake & yuzu juice!
•
Nice design interior with a mix of bright colour blocks contrasting with black floors and a wooden staircase from a charming townhouse.
•
Good to note that it’s also a dumpling and sake shop.

Today is all about the wine bar the .gent , because Wine not?

Location wise, this wine shop bar is very central, on Ajuinlei.
Be quick to grab a chair on the terrace but inside there are plenty of space!

About the wines there is a selection of pretty niche and unusual ones, which are great discoveries! Lots from Eastern Europe and a focus on natural wines.
•
I went for an Orange natural wine from Slovakia. I would for sure recommend it if you want to try something new, fresh and cloudy 🍷
•
It’s also a shop to bring back home a bottle of your favorite wine. And last but not least, it’s also English Book shop!

This post is only dedicated to the unique interior, isn’t it amazing? It’s like French chic bo***ir ala Marie-Antoinette!
Beautiful ceiling fresco with chandeliers in the main room and 2 other side rooms: One with wall portraits and one with a tea pots and tureens collection!
It’s a perfect spot to catchup with friends or organise a private event.

There is also an ALICE food magasin to bring some culinary souvenirs back home, located a few meters away in the Sint-Michielsstraat.

Let’s talk pizza today! Not a new place in Ghent but oldies can still be goodies right?
Open since 2009 by Valentina Gatti, eat.love.pizza makes wafer thin pizza’s using sustainable and qualitative ingredients coming mainly from local Belgian farmers or directly from Italy.

On the menu, choices of red or white pizza’s (without tomato sauce).
I have tasted both: a red one with burrata, ham and rucola, and a white one with peer, gorgonzola cheese and nuts (veggie).
Good to mention the half & half pizza concept so you can imagine your dream pizza!
Antipasti and different pasta also available.

The restaurant has a large space with 2 rooms on each side of the kitchen counter so it’s ideal for group dinners as well.

Let’s start the Christmas holidays with a Christmassy coffee at MÒRIS ☕️
Already known as a great place for an evening drink, I have been positively surprised to see they have also nice warm seasonal drinks: We went for a speculoos and maple syrup latte and chai latte with whipped cream!

The whole atmosphere also perfectly fits the holidays mood. Bricks, grey stones and wooden beams with candles and…a fireplace! It immediately feels like a mountain chalet after a ski day! 🪵🧱🔥

Time for a cosy Brunch at Cozette
Located next to the Citadelpark, finally a nice place to hang out in this neighbourhood for breakfast, lunch or week-end Brunch.

About the Brunch menu, you can choose à la carte between sweet or salty dishes (or both 😉).
We have tasted the pancakes with baked banana, fruits and mascarpone and the Bun with trout salad, beetroot and dill. If you are still hungry afterwards, homemade pastries on the counter included cinnamon buns with pecan nuts!

Where to eat a stoofvlees, the typical Flemish stew in Ghent? According to me the best so far is at

Don’t be fooled by the name, nothing latino here. This restaurant is like at your grand mother ´s with a cosy vintage interior and a large pot on the table from which you help yourself. The stew is served with homemade french fries and buttery apples…yummy!
•
Also other typical Belgian dishes on the menu. About drinks good to mention the great Erpe Mere saison beer!
•
I don’t know why I haven’t talk about this place before because this is one of my favourite, especially for warm comfort food in the winter.

Where to buy sourdough bread in Ghent? Well let me tell you it wasn’t easy to find…Until !
•
It’s a microbakery where everything is made with sourdough by Tomas: from whole wheat, spelt or rye breads to chocolate chip cookies to cinnamon buns.
The breads are very nice and available in 2 sizes. I would also recommend to try their cinnamon/chocolate buns, so good!

How does this microbakery works you may wonder? Orders need to be made at least 1day in advance, for pick up on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Delivery by bike is also possible. Check their website for more info

Quick lunch at to try one of their salty waffle.

I went for the Fried chicken one with a crispy fried chicken on a cheddar waffle, a fried egg, canadian maple syrup, sriracha-mayo and a homemade pickle.

It’s tasty and pretty filling, no space left for one of their sweet pancakes! Have a look at my previous post where I talked about them 🥞

.gent is a specialty coffee roastery! Already located at Dok Noord, they have recently open a new shop in the city center.
•
Want to buy coffee grains? That’s the right place. They can help you make a delicious coffee at home by choosing among a large selection. There are also all the coffee material needed to brew, filter, blend, or ground.
•
But WAY is also a café to take away a latte, a filter, a double espresso… brewed in the shop! and you can eat one of their vegan pastries (I took the delicious cinnamon bun).
Good to note that everything is plant based 🌱

Tip: if you buy a bag of coffee beans/grounds, you have a take away coffee included!

Just a bit outside of Ghent you can find this little gems. The interior deco has been redone recently and it’s so beautiful: perfect to still feel on holidays in Ibiza 🌴👒
Also nice tables outside in the garden in front of Parkbos!

It’s all about Mediterranean vibes, also on the plates with pasta with scampi, risotto with seabass… And the mocktail with passion fruit is delicious🍹.

Dinner at inside ! Spoiler: it was really tasty!
The concept is all about BBQ food and the menu changes daily with a choice of 4 meats,1 fish and 4 vegs meals.

On my plates we got beef brisket, entrecôte, tomatos salad, Chinese cabbage and roasted mushrooms!

Summer evenings out are the best! One of my favourite place where I immediately went after the reopening is Hal 16! It feels so good to be back mainly because:
- At Hal 16 there are several restaurants at the same location so there is always a good reason to come back. Either to eat the best pizza of Ghent at , drink a tap beer from , get a burger from or eat bbq food from .
- The huge shelter makes it one of the biggest and best terrace of Ghent, ideal for sunny or rainy days!

Oatsome brunch at !
After having tried their lunch on my previous post, I went back for a brunch this time.
The good thing is that menu changes according to the season so on the plate we got: Rubarb Ricotta pancakes with granola (I mean look at this 🤤) and a Peanut Banana porridge with an açai energiser smoothie and a lean green juice!
Loving those bright juices colours, it feels so much like summer, don’t you think?

Takeaway lunch from . This is the place to eat a lobster roll in Ghent. Or to be more precise a Canadian Hard shell lobster on a soft bread roll. 🦞 Here is the delicious Classic but there are also other versions (Japanese, Louisiana, Nova Scotia or Vietnamese).
Also a lobster bisque is available on the menu.

Judith is the lovely owner who decided to start this adventure focusing on simple ingredients with tasty combinations to make lobster an affordable dish.

The sportiest café in Ghent is CUP Gent!
At Nieuwe Dokken, CUP has recently celebrated its first birthday! You come there for a takeaway coffee and cake, to buy a bicycle, have it repaired and take it for a ride or start a sport activity.

Lots of sport activities and clubs are organised in normal times such running, canoe, yoga...

About drinks & food, it is currently open for takeaway with a drink menu, cakes and pastries. For instance cinnamon rolls and donuts from . Lots of vegan options too.

Good to mention: Cup cares about the planet and help reduce the waste. Therefore you should bring your own cup or buy our reusable CUP (3,5€)🥤

What I like about this place is its location so to enjoy a cinnamon roll and my favourite chai latte with a nice view on the docks!
