Founded in 1838, the brewery is owned and operated by the monks of the St Sixus Abbey. Westvleteren Blonde (green cap), 5.8% ABV, introduced on 10 June, 1999. Westvleteren 8 (blue cap) (formerly Extra), 8% ABV. Westvleteren 12 (yellow cap) (formerly Abt), a 10.2% ABV, introduced in 1940. Of these, Westvleteren 12 is the beer everyone is talking about. Westvleteren 12 is a Belgian Trappist Ale that
