Bhutan Agro Industries Limited (BAIL) has recorded significant growth in procurement at its Lingmethang processing plant, with volumes surging from 43.43 metric tonnes in 2020 to 174.93 metric tonnes in 2025.

𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞.

Across western Bhutan, farmers are harvesting this year’s apples — each one representing months of hard work, care and hope.
But not every apple makes it to the fresh fruit market. Some are overlooked for their colour, shape or imperfections. Yet, what may fall short in appearance can still be rich in value.

At Bhutan Agro we believe that value should not be defined by appearance alone. Through our ISO 22000:2018 certified Wangchutaba Plant, these apples find a new purpose. What may not have made it to the fresh fruit market can go on to become apple nectar, juice and c***r vinegar — allowing the harvest to live on in a different form.

And the story doesn’t end with the finished product. What remains of the fruit continues its journey — finding use as animal feed or returning to the soil as organic manure.

Because when we look beyond appearance, we find more value to create, more to conserve, and more opportunities for the farmers who grow it.
