Introducing our GEC+ AFRICA Finalists ✨

Meet Matlhogonolo Seadimo who is on a mission to clean up the beauty industry one braid at a time. Through Mattie’s Success, she is turning banana stem waste into a global movement challenging a world hooked on toxic synthetic hair products and proving that Africa can lead the circular economy revolution from the ground up.

With over 15 years in the hair industry, Matlhogonolo’s journey spans factory floors in Qingdao, China and Botswana, where she built deep manufacturing expertise before launching her own factory and pioneering the transformation of banana stems into sustainable hair braids.

Her work has not gone unnoticed. She made history at the Creative Business Cup in Denmark, becoming the first African to win the award. She has represented Botswana on the world stage from the ICDSI Venture competition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to the Global Entrepreneurship Competition in Bahrain. Selected from thousands of African entrepreneurs, she broke into the Top 8 of the Harvard Business School Africa Programme (HBSA). She also earned a place among the Top 8 Harambeans a prestigious network tied to Harvard Business School recognising her as one of the most compelling impact-driven entrepreneurs on the continent. She also secured a spot in the Top 10 of the Nature Positive Accelerator in the United Kingdom and was named a Standard Chartered Women in Tech winner.
