Sometimes farming throws you a curveball.

Our harvester decided to call it quits right in the middle of harvest, so it was time to drag our old undercutter out from the bush line. It may not prettiest setup, but it’s getting the job done.

You learn pretty quickly that on the farm, you make do with what you’ve got and keep moving forward. One way or another, the garlic isn’t going to harvest itself!

Last winter, we spent a lot of time looking at the bottlenecks in our operation and thinking about how we could improve them. For a while, we traded our farmer hats for engineer hats—and this is what we came up with!

One of the biggest challenges after harvest is efficiently sizing and grading our garlic. This custom-built grading machine helps us sort bulbs by size more accurately and consistently while significantly reducing the amount of manual handling. That means better efficiency, more consistent grading, and more time spent focusing on getting high-quality garlic ready for our customers.

So far, it’s been working exactly as we’d hoped, and we’re excited to put it to work this harvest!

🚜 Big news from Red River Garlic! 🧄

Today we’re excited to share a major milestone for our farm—we’ve officially purchased our first tractor!

This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) and Helena at the Louis Riel Capital Corporation. We are truly grateful for your guidance, encouragement, and support throughout this process.

For a long time, we’ve relied on borrowing, renting, and doing whatever we could to get the job done. Owning our own tractor is a huge step forward for Red River Garlic and will help us continue to grow, improve our operation, and produce the high-quality garlic our customers have come to expect.

To everyone who has supported us along the way—whether you’ve purchased our garlic, shared our posts, or cheered us on—thank you. This milestone belongs to all of us, and we’re excited for what the future holds.

🌱 Garlic harvest has officially begun at Red River Garlic! 🧄

We’re excited to share that this year’s crop is looking fantastic. We’re seeing excellent bulb size, outstanding quality, and a healthy harvest that we’re proud to bring to your table.

Our garlic is now being harvested and will spend the next 3–4 weeks curing to develop its full flavour and ensure it stores well.

📦 Pre-orders will be opening shortly, with garlic available in 5 lb quantities. If you’ve been waiting to stock up on locally grown Manitoba garlic, now’s the time to keep an eye on our page!

We know it’s been a little quiet on here lately… but we’ve definitely been keeping busy behind the scenes! Between long days, fun new projects, and doing what we love, social media just hasn’t been the main focus lately. But don’t worry — we’ve got lots more to share soon!
