One of the silliest things I ever did as a teenager…
I wore my mum’s shoe to my graduation party. 😩😂
I was graduating from senior secondary school at Samwagba Comprehensive College, Ore. I already had my fine outfit ready, but the shoe my mum bought for me was not giving at all. It didn’t blend with my “big girl” vibe, so I gathered courage, swallowed fear… and wore her brand-new black heels.
Of all days, that was the same day my elder sister went into labour. 🙄😩
My mum rushed home from work to pack her things and travel for the naming ceremony. And guess the shoe she planned to wear?
Yes.
That same shoe.
The same shoe that was on my two legs… at my graduation… in another town entirely. 🤦♀️
While I was busy dancing, snapping pictures and forming big girl, my mum was sweating, turning the whole house upside down looking for her shoe. She even instructed my siblings to FIND it before she got back. She left the house angry.
Party finished, I reached house… wahala greeted me at the door.
“Did you see Mummy’s shoe?”
“Which one?” I asked, but my spirit was already shaking.
“That new black heels with stones.”
My heart first cut like NEPA wire. Everywhere blurry.
I denied it. God knows I denied it because I know my mama. From that night, peace left my body. Sleep became visitor.
Fast-forward to when she returned from the naming ceremony. I had already hidden the shoe like contraband. She asked me again, and I denied it — with confidence.
My mum became so worried, she went to her pastor to pray about her “missing shoe.”
Me wey thief am even followed her for prayers. 😭😭😭
After praying, the pastor said:
“The shoe is not missing. Nobody used it for any diabolical reason. The person who took it looks like this your daughter… and very soon, the shoe will return.”
My heart did gbom gbom gbom.
That night, I couldn’t sleep. I broke down and confessed everything.
Guess what my mum did to me? 😭😭😭
— Just know I survived to tell the story.
